Intranet + integrated BBS system - Content ideas needed?

I posted about this sometime ago. I’m working in an academic research department and have been tasked with setting up an intranet and integrated BBS (Vbulletin) system to share information and stimulate knowledge sharing. I’m trying to find idea’s for content and thought I’d post here to see if I could get some advice on your thoughts/ideas from your companies Intranet.

Announcements
Surveys
Section on social activities
