    Does anyone know of an open source (or freeware) program which acts as a virtual dvd drive?
    A friend of mine uses alcohol 120%, but I'm a bit reluctant to pay the thirty euro needed for a copy.

    Yep, Daemon Tools ships with a bundled toolbar, but you can (read should) deselect it during the installation.
