What would be the tax implications on these?

I got funds onto my WireCard account by going into a BOI here in Limerick and making a simple lodgement to Wirecard's local account in a BOI in Dublin. Full directions are on the site....make sure your Wirecard account number is put as a reference number when making the lodgement.

Did you get the money back from the validation charge on PayPal? You know the one that they charge a euro or so to check if the card is valid, and then re-imburse it. The problem is on 3V you can't get the charge back.

Thats it! I noticed 75cents is unaccounted for after I made my purchase....I remembered something similar happening with 3V...an authorisation charge or something. I think I always got that back with 3V....getting refunded for other things was possible with 3V it would just take a good while.

I haven't got it back yet...I'll let you know if it does. I don't know if its too early to say yet but there isn't any "transaction details" information on the Wirecard site that 3V has. Y'know like a statement....It's a small thing but handy.

I thought u did it using banking 365.... Aint much different(apart from the cost n lifespan) from 3v.. Was hoping to be able to transfer money online into my wirecard acc. Means if u want to order something at the weekend online u gotta wait till monday to get money onto ur wirecard acc.. That sucks!! 3v has it beat there...

Well if I get the authorisation/validation fee back I'll have saved €4.50 over getting a 3V which isn't bad. I don't have online banking with Ulster Bank but I'll get it if I find out I can make transfers to the Wirecard Dublin account with it. Won't have to leave the home ahh!!

yeah surely if Wirecard have a local account in Boi Dublin then you should be able to set up a transfer on any online service to a third party account. I know the option is there on my PTSB online account but i'm still waiting for my BOI 365 to be opened, can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to transfer to a Dublin bank account!!!!

    What do you mean?
The Irish Government charges a fixed fee for Credit Cards yearly. But seeing as this card is issued from Germany (and not Ireland) the issue of whether or not you're liable to pay this tax is raised.

But this isn't an actual Credit Card as there is no form of credit involved. You merely transfer your money to a Wirecard account and they provide you with a Mastercard number which you can use online as you would a normal credit card.

As regards the plastic version of this card i e-mailed them and this was their response:

"We would like to inform you that we plan the launch of a plastic card which
relates to Wirecard account and customers will forward request through a
button in the Wirecard account – this will automatically trigger the order and
the production process. The cost of physical Card will
    be usual in the market."

Also i asked aabout the thing that says i'm a resident of Germany and they sent me 2 forms to fill out and send back to them, don't know if i'm bothered, i might just try set up a new one with a different e-mail!

Can I validate my PayPal account with Wirecard? Will the four digit code show up on the Wirecard account?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Yes, the number will show up on your account a few days later.

Great thanks for the quick reply! By the way do you know what PayPal mean when they say they will (as thanks for validating) apply the €1.50 as a bonus? When you buy something again with the card do they pay €1.50?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Your are excatly right. The next time you buy something after entering the 4 digit code paypal will credit €1.50 to your account, usually within 24 hours of the transaction.

Also I made a purchase with Wirecard and the funds are now marked as "Reserved". Does this mean the seller has gotten the money and is paid or is he waiting? I would hope and think it is the former.

It means that the transaction has been charged but not settled yet. When it is settled in 1 to 2 days time it will appear on your account and be deducted from your balance.

No Idea. Guess you will have to try it to find out. Check their terms and conditions first though.

But the guy I paid...he has the money instantly yes? I mean, he's happy and has sent the item I bought to me? From his perspective does he have to wait for the transaction to be settled?

No. HE has the money instantly, it just takes a few days for paypal to collect the actual money from wirecard. In the meantime the money is not yours to spend hence it is reserved.

phew...thanks for answering the barrage of questions.

Bizarrely 18c got freed up from my reserved amount today? Why ? I just don't know....there's still a whole 57c unaccounted for. Should I sue? :D

Still waiting for detailed information on my transaction to appear though...if I'm right in thinking it will appear. For example I'm hoping it will show how much exactly the transaction came to and how much the PayPal authorisation charge was....does with 3V.

*edit* Lodged more funds yesterday and made a second payment today, 17 Apr. When things updated I got back the PayPal charge and I also wasn't charged the 50c usage charge. I checked the fees schedule on the website and couldn't find any mention of a 50c usage charge anymore....I think it might be gone? /me cheers!

Just had a look at the BOI 365 online demo and I think you need to call 1890 365 200 to create a beneficiary to make a payment to.

Yeah thats all that needs to be done. One quick question. I got a wirecard account and put €70 into it, so I have my card number and other details. If I make another payment in the near future to wirecard, will I still have the same card number and the same details?

The card details are valid until its expiry after two years...so yes you have the same card number etc for two years.
