Was brought to my attention in the UKash thread in Online Buying & Auctions.

It's a new virtual visa card from Mastercard - useful for all those of you without a credit card and using 3V the whole time.

You can signup here and deposit money either using bank transfer or credit card.

As far as i can tell from the fees page, there's a fee of a €1 every time you deposit money into it. And a fee of 50c every time you use it.

    Still better than 3V anyways!

Is it the same 16 digit number all the time ?
3v is handy as the number changes all the time, handy for certain transactions.

This will spell the end to 3v. Wirecard is valid for 2 years and you simply top it up. No more ending upwith 5 or 6 euro on a 3v and having to root about in plays bargain basement just to use it up. Also wirecard can be used to buy items over 350 which was 3v's limit.

    Wirecard ftw!

:D I wonder what those might be?

    Two Things

Wire Crad is handy cause you can get an actual mastercard for only €24.99 i think so you can use it in any shop,

    Downside

Not Very easy to top up

They don't have the actual one yet. Upside: might not charge Irish gov tax cos its issued from Germany.

Its easy to top up if you have online banking. Yay, now i have a use for online banking!

Taken From FAQ Section on Wirecard Site

Q: What is my "virtual MasterCard"?A: After your first deposit into your account, you will receive your virtual MasterCard automatically and free of charge. So its basically a credit card without the credit part? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,852 ✭✭✭Fnz

Sounds interesting. Is there a yearly government duty to be paid on this virtual card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

This looks pretty good, any mention of an age limit anywhere? also do banks allow wire transfer for account holders under 18? This is definetly better than 3v

    Edit:

    Crap
    3. Card Application
    (1) A Wirecard is issued on the basis of the information you have provided in the application for the Card. You must be at least 18 years of age to be permitted to apply for a Card. You may only apply for a Wirecard for yourself and your own personal use.
I guess i have to wait a few months to get it so, ah well 3v it is till then!

Trying this out. I see Wirecard have a local account in Dublin for depositing funds. I tried to make a bank transfer today but for some reason Ulster Bank can't do bank to bank transfers?!?! Kind of defeats the whole wire transfer purpose but thats what the teller said. I didn't try to make a Euro/international transfer with IBAN. I wonder can they even do that if they can't do the domestic transfer?

Had to take the money out of my Ulster Bank account and go into a BOI here in Limerick and make what amounts to a lodgement to the Dub Wirecard account.

If it works then thats still quite an easy way to top up. I wonder how long I will have to wait for the MasterCard details to come through?

yeah this looks so much handier than 3v. But is there anymore details on the actual plastic version of this card cause surely that would just be a Mastercard debit card and would have charges etc. I couldn't find anything on it bar that line paconnors has above. Anyone have any more info?

just signed up for it, looks good, but how do you transfer funds by direct debit? i dont see this option on the deposit money page?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Kid Nothing

in the deposit money options after you enter the amount, you choose your payment option: Credit Card, Direct Debit or Wire Transfer. seems pretty easy. Has anyone actually used it yet? Paul Savory Ax seemed to have a bit of hassle with it! Anyone shed some light on it?

There's only options for Wire Transfer or Credit Card.

I've mine setup with €79 in it (€80 - €1 fee) but haven't bought anything yet.

I think you can transfer over the phone or online though - AFAIK it's just in local branches that you can't do bank to bank transfers. Bizarre.

After you enter how much you're depositing in the "deposit money" section direct debit is mentioned in an orange box at the right. It says it takes 7 days to credit the funds to your account. However no further mention is made of direct debit anywhere else.....

The local account in Dublin is in the "Deposit Method" section with a link called "Deposit money by wire transfer"...click that and scroll down to the bottom of the page....the heading is "local further accounts"...there's a pdf with them all.

There is a few funny quirks with the website...

As far as i know, AIB Internet Banking are the only to offer online bank transfer (definitely the only one to offer international online bank transfer).

Typical of bank branches nowadays. I have requested U.B. to transfer money to an account in another local bank on several occasions over the past year. Their answer was to ask me to withdraw cash & bring that down to the other bank & deposit it. What a bollox of a service !!!

Yeah, possibly 3 days. I transferred late Monday night and it appeared today.

Need to find something to spend it on now to test it out! :D

4 days is the longest it could take. Typically it should take 48 to 72 hours.

has anyone tried to use 365 banking to transfer funds? it would be a real pain if you couldn't!!

Well I checked my account and the money was there!! In less than 24 hours too! Made a purchase and got a paypal receipt...although the transaction still isnt showing on the wirecard website....so everything seems to be good :D

Re above: the direct debit option ain't there for me either....I thought you guys meant the orange box at the side. Its missing from the "Deposit Method section"...amull87 why are you so special?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,603 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Paul Savory Ax..

Did you get the money back from the validation charge on PayPal? You know the one that they charge a euro or so to check if the card is valid, and then re-imburse it. The problem is on 3V you can't get the charge back.

Need a few things on EBay but my Paypal account is complaining of a security breach. Need to send them a utility bill to resolve it!

That's besides the point but has ticked me right off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Kid Nothing

yeah that's really weird that i have the direct debit option. i probably did something wrong when i was signing up (i.e. said i was american or something). I'll try check it out.

Also Paul Savory Ax how exactly did you get the cash into the Wirecard account?? Did you say you used BOI to transfer it? Or did you have to do something else?

Edit: yeah i'm just after checking and it says my country of residence is Germany so that is that solved. But how do i change that to Ireland, it says i have to contact their service team!!!! Seems a bit awkward.

Edit 2: This is really weird, when i go to the sifn up option, the country of residence field is set to Germany and can't be changed, is it just me or is that the same for everyone?
