Myself and some friends are looking at renting a Mini-bus in Spain this summer for a few days. We're looking at a 16 seater probably. Though maybe a 9 Seater.

Does anybody know if you need a special license for this?
Any difference between the 9 / 16 seater?

I think here in Ireland you'd need a class C license?

I don’t know anything about licences, but I do know that you will need to talk to your insurance company about issuing you with a “Spanish Bail Bond”. Under Spanish legislation, after an accident, everyone is arrested on the spot and you will need bail arranged to get you out of police custody. Spanish Bail Bonds cover this scenario. Obviously you won’t be classified as a criminal, it’s just the way they do things in Spain.

(Please note, this was the case at least 3 years ago and it’s possible it could have changed in the meantime).

You need a D1 licence for anything between 9 and 16 seats. D for anything above that.
