I hope it doesn't lose any of the things that make it so watchable.

    Pride > UFC

Lets hope. I love Pride precisely because of its educated (in grappling) target audience and its harshness. Means the fighters aren't stood up after 10 seconds but also that they are equipped with the weapons to prevent negative grappling. Also it has some of the most exciting fighters in the world.

Now its become obvious why Cro cop made the early move to the UFC and why Fedor has signed with Bodog.

Fedor has signed with..... no one.

He's fighting one fight contract to whoever offers him cash and a good opponent.

Why? Because he is one of the best fighters on the planet and wants to get paid.:D

dana said that Pride will adopt UFC rules and weight classes. Rest in peace soccer kicks and stomps:(

ICON and TKO still allow them, anyone see Trigg kicking around Mayhem?

Not sure what to think of this. Hope it turns out to be a good thing for MMA.

Guess we are going to have a lot of "what if" questions answered now. Go Fedor :)

I don't shed any tears for the loss of soccer kicks but stomps going is bad.

Good: We might see more quality matches as there'll be little contractual ties keeping fighters away from each other.

Bad: UFC Rules for Pride :(

I can understand the reasoning for keeping the rules in a line between promotions.

Look what happened when Hendo beat Wandy. Loads of people sat there and said "sure he only won because Wandy couldn't XYZ".

As such, if there going to be doing champ vs champ non title fights as the rumours suggest it just makes sense, or you'll be taking one fighter out of his game by having him fight in the other country for that one fight.

It's not really a TRUE representation of who is better if both fight under rulesets.

Bring soccer kicks and stomps to ufc.

The Athletic Commissions in the States would be HIGHLY unlikely to allow that. Even if they did it would take a massive amount of time and lobbying.

I assume they are taking the view that the sooner things are unified the better, so are simply dropping the more "brutal" moves of the one, as opposed to having to lobby them in to the other?

Knees to the head when grounded should be allowed, it would stop a lot of stalling that goes on.
Soccer kicks are a bit brutal sure but stomps I dont see much of a problem with but they'll never get passed by the commission's.

The open guard rule used in Cage Rage is pretty cool. Basically, if the person on the ground is stalling in open guard, the referee can call "open guard" which allows the person standing (or on top) to start using Pride rules (stomps and soccer kicks). This rule increases action and activity for this scenario but also prevents somebody who has just been taken down and is unaware of what's going on for a split second from getting stomped/kicked.

I think that was brought in so Cage Rage could be a feeder for Pride. someone correct me if I am wrong. Hopefully that rubbish will be gone with the amalgamation as well.

Knees to the head on the ground should be allowed, though its doubtful they will, soccer kicks and stomps we are better off without, try painting MMA as non-brutal to someone who saw Wanderlei stomp the head off Nakamura or some other Japanese tomatoe can.
