    Just about to book a trip to Venice with Ryanair. Should I get their travel insurance?

    No. If you want travel insurance and are a frequent traveller get it from somewhere else, it will be much better value.

    In general, yes, you should.

    From Ryanair itself? (Although, I'm not convinced you meant it that way) - well that's up to you. Read the terms and conditions, and see which provider works best for you.

    Shop around, as in all situations.

    I wouldnt get theirs. I didnt anyway when I booked my flights, I mainly need health insurance though, so the form E111 is my best option(its free). For actual travel insurance, as above, shop around

    You should never depend on the EHIC (the E111 replacement) alone.

    Yeah, think I'm covered under some VHI thing anyway(good auld parents), and from what I understand, this E111 thing is health anyway.

    The EHIC and VHI are indeed for your healthcare, it covers your treatment in hospital. But what if you need an airlift? Drugs? Medical assistance to get home (eg, doctor/nurse)?

    One should have travel insurance to augment their entitlements. If you parents have VHI, they should avail of their travel insurance. It's pretty good value.
