I got talking to a girl thursday night at a houseparty and i heard the strangest/bravest lifestyle decision ever!

She was studying Marine Biology and eh, stuff-ism, and recently got selected for a sponsored trip to Antartica.
6 of them will be leaving in Sept. for 2 years! The cool thing is that they have 6 months to come up with a list of rations to take for 730 odd days.

    If it were me i'd take, (besides the normal stuff you'd need);

    >110 btls of Scotch whiskey
    >8,000 to 10,000 fags (15 bic lighters)
    >1 large box of assorted pornographic magazines
    >2 - 5 hurleys and a few sliotars
    >MP3 player and a couple of hundred batteries
    >Plenty of books
    >An assorted array of illicit drugs (The other 5 would surely wreck your chops at some stage)
    >10 boxes of assorted Tayto

    So what would you bring?
Pretty much what you have there. If they're looking for people to fill the post of survival kit designers, you have my vote. Except for the hurleys etc. they let boggers onto the virgin Antarctic ice now? the Penguins must be warned.:D

Oh apologies I see you're a Cork man. That's OK then.;)

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I'd bring 16 vestal virgins, but wouldn't bury them alive when done with them.

    Lots and lots of chocolate
All the CDs, DVDs and books I could possibly fit.
    My laptop
    My mp3 player
    A camera
A penguin cage, for the pet penguins I'd have
A large poster of Johnny Depp
    My duvet
Carmex and intensive moisturiser. My skin gets dry in the cold.

    Can't think what else!

I'd take a polar bear so no one can say there are none in antarctic. Depends which research station I'd be on though. If it's the American one, I wouldn't bother with dvds, if its the Russian one, I wouldn't bother with vodka etc, but I suppose I'd have to bring a few oirishey things to trade like potatoes or what not.

Some good books. Apart from that, once I have internet, I'm not bothered.

(Presuming food and other necessities come as default).

Now, I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything, The Scientist, or calling you naive or anything! :D But, if you read back through the bits of your post I highlighted, the first thing that popped into my head was that it sounded a lot like some kind of excuse she was coming up with or some kind of gentle "thanks but no-thanks" because she just wasn't interested but didn't want to hurt your feelings kind of thing, if you know what I mean? ;):D

Then again, if you did actually manage to score her or get anywhere with her that night, fair play to you and I apologise for anything I may have insinuated in the above paragraph! :D

As for what I'd bring to the Antarctic myself, well, if you bring a laptop or PC of some sort with you, as long as you have a working internet connection of some sort to hook it up to, who needs to bring a box of assorted porno! As simu said, the internet's got everything you could possibly want! :D

Plus, you can use the internet to order anything you might need....... though, admitedly, delivery might be a bit of a problem! ;) Anyone know if Dominos or Papa John's do deliveries to the Antarctic? :D

    Lolz!

I remember it being my 21st for quite a few years, in the hope that girls would give me a few kisses and not want the aul strings.. but again Teh Scientisht, who are we do doubt you?

    Oh and OT - sandwiches!

A large quantity of good books, all of my favourite cds, a good few boxes of marshmallows. I think for 6 weeks, it would be good to detox from laptop but if I could order the Independant or the Times daily, that would be good.
Also bring some lavender oil for relaxation qualities and some pics of family/friends.

Large quantity of good quality Fair Trade coffee & even larger quantity of sugar for same. yum yum.

    One book:
David Bellamy's tome "How to Cook and Enjoy Penguin in 50 ways"

Two hundred cases of shyte paer.."Kittensoft" if I was being sponsored.

    Tesco "Tuffhole" if not.

A jar of chopped liver and a selection of astringent creams.

    That should do it.

    >2 - 5 hurleys and a few sliotars

    Why can't you decide on 2, 3, 4 or 5?

    2 - 5 is very vague.
