Trade off between Pot Control and Pricing out draws?

So whats the deal here? I have a hand but there are draws on the board. What is the trade off between Pot Control and Pricing out a draw? This may not be the best hand to use as an example but im sure ppl get my drift. I may well be behind here and need to control the pot - or he may be drawing to a flush and I dont want to give him a free card?
