m4a to MP3 converter

    I'm looking for a converter so that i can make up MP3 cds for the car. Does anyone know of a decent one for Mac? I know they exist for windows and i suppose i could just use parrallels and just use one of those. But would prefer to keep it to mac software.

    Also i know itunes can do this but it creates duplicates in the library and i don;'t want the hassle of having to manage that every time i want to make up a Mp3 Cd

    Simply check the MP3 CD option in iTunes, it won't create duplicates that way, and will convert them on the fly to MP3 format when you hit burn, without creating duplicates in your library or leaving any files behind. :)

    Or just set up another user, turn fast user switching on and use that user with iTunes set to import and convert to mp3. That users iTunes music library will be kept separate from your own.

    Yep - thats what I do. I'd imagine that QuickTime could also do this.

    You sure this works? Apple's Help files say that only MP3's will be burned if you check the MP3 cd button and that non MP3's will not be burned.

    Also the issue i have with burning directly from iTunes like that is all songs appear in root folder. If i use toast i can create folders and organise the songs by album or whatever.

    you can use itunes to convert the songs. only problem is that when you convert them you have two copies of every song, 1 in m4a one in mp3. just select all the songs you want to convert then control-click and select convert to mp3
