Flirting, or not?

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm from the U.S. (female) and I've been talking to a guy from Ireland for a while now. Things are great, but one thing that's been bothering me lately is that I'm not sure whether or not this is friendship, or if it might be something more. Lots of flirting... I thought, but then it occured to me that it could just be a cultural thing. So my question is, is it appropriate/normal to call just friends "pet", "darling", etc.?

I imagine its perfectly platonic.

But most guys want it with most girls anyway. If he's still talking to you he is at least halfway interested.

Thanks. Just wasn't sure because nobody around here seems to say that kind of thing unless they're together.

The thing is culture only defines things so far.

The thing to try to determine is whether he tends to use such terms of endearment with other friends or not.

It's not that commonplace, but there are some people around who are fun

If you like the level of flirtiness then enjoy it, if you don't, tell him to knock it off. Don't worry about anything else unless it happens (unless you want it to happen, in which case just go for it).
