What a fantastically sweeping generalisation! :-)

Moved out at 18 and have allways felt it was the best decision.

Lots points of view have allready been expressed here I just have one small thing to add for the OP to think about.

If your planning on going travelling you will probbably have a much better experience if you have some time living away from your parents. I'll put it this way its difficult to learn how to cook in your own kitchen for the first time. If your going travelling your going to be cooking in a kitchen shared with about 100 people. Same goes with managing money. Your first experience of trying to budget should not be when your stranded out in the middle of the australian outback or somewhere similar.

Walk before you try to run so to speak.

People who stay with their parents that long are weird. You shouldnt really be saving that much money living at home unless you're being tight and not paying your dues. Move out, grow up, get some strange ass and travel lots. And don't get a mortgage jsut because theirs idiots out there pressuring you to buy as its the done thing.

Quoted for truth. Someone earlyier in the thread made the statement that rent money is dead money. I dont fully agree with that statement its carries far less risk than getting a loan for around 300k to invest in a market that is more than likely going to leave you with negative equity.

    harsh

Why is it that everyone thinks that people who live at home can't cook.....I'm a mini genie in the kitchen....you name it i can cook it. Actually I've done loads of travelling over the years....asia south america. i don't need to practise really.

Anyway on my way to see a place in an hour or two. I'm not sure if strange ass will be included but we'll have to see :D

I'd stay at home and challenge yourself to save loads and go travelling.....then when you get back you will be so well trained at living of a few euro you will be well able to save for a deposit on a house (or rent whichever you prefer) and you will be the envy of all your friends!
My brother is 21 and still lives at home.....not too weird but the fecker has never had a job! Ever! He only lasted two days in school work experience! Oooooh never realised how much that annoyed me.....I left home at 18......Should have stayed at home!!!;)

I'd like some sushi, a Seafood mix in thai sauce, Something involving jalapenos (preferably stir-fry or something) and for desert.. hmm.. Chocolate gateau?

    ;)

Joking aside though, best of luck later on with the place viewing.

i earn a decent enough salary for someone of my age but my spending habits are attrocious.....is there any hope that moving out might make me grow up and start budgeting?

Forget growing up and budgeting. You have no idea how much living with your parents impedes your life until you are no longer living with your parents.

Do your parents allow you to take random strangers home and shág them on the living room table if the mood takes you? Probably not.

Do your parents mind if you decide to get twisted and watch porn on your tod if the mood takes you? Probably not.

Do your parents mind bringing a bunch of mates home at four in the morning and continue to party until late in the day? I doubt it.

I dont advocate the short list above as being primary justifications for moving out, BUT you have no idea what options are open to you until you get out from beneath the folks feet.

..... wheras I am desperately trying to purge the image of Kell doing the deed on my parents living room table ........

He does however make a good point, you would definitely feel less "scrutinised" if you're not living with your parents.

I guess a lot of it cmoes down to personal likes and dislikes. You should probably think in terms of 6 months down the road littlesurfer ....... what changes/improvements would you like to see in your life and which of the options you have in front of you is most likely to produce the type of lifestyle you think you would enjoy.

Would you have more money for travelling if you stayed at home or moved out?

Would you have more fun with your friends if you stayed at home or moved out?

Would you feel better about yourself if you stayed at home or moved out?

    etc. etc. etc.

By the way if you do move out we're all expecting invites to the moving in party ;)

So i went to see a place. Lovely room but very small for 450 a month. Owner occpuier house and kind of felt i would feel a little out of place there.
The girl was lovely but seemed a bit older in the head than me,...if ya get me.

Still it was only the first...

Just save that 450 a month. That's 5,400 a year plus more when you add the cost of utility bills and feeding yourself. That would go a long way towards seeing the world.
