Is it just me or is there way too much of CSI on RTE2? I used to be a fan of the shows but cannot stand them anymore.TV is oversaturated with them. I nterms of RTE, what about be people that dont have digital who are subjected to sometimes 4 hours a week in primetime.

I seem to recall the show's creators commented that he could forsee a time when there'd be a different CSI show for every night. I'm not sure that he was joking...

You should see the TV line up in Australia.

And it's not just CSI, we've only got 3 channels and there's at least 2 - 3 different crime solving programmes on every night

    All the CSI's
    Law & Order
    Criminal Minds
    NCIS
    Medium
    Numbers etc etc.

Not sure if RTE are playing any of them yet but it's only a matter of time.

I wish they'd spread it out a bit. All in one night, meh. Saying that, tho, its nice to watch them all. And then watch more on LivingTV.

Yes. And then copycat stuff like Medical Investigation. Although that show is so silly it gives me the lols.

It'd be grand if they showed only new ones in prime time but they slap on a double bill of old Miami every time they've a free hour and a half. Really fustrating, thing is I'd watch Vegas and maybe NY regularly but have no idea when their actually supposed to be scheduled or if they're just repeats to fill an hour.

    Criminal Minds sucks Basquille.
"Criminal Minds" mimics its predecessors in more ways than it deviates from them. Patinkin seems so detached that he looks bored at times. It's sort of amusing, too, how "Criminal Minds" likes to think it's smarter than it is. Each episode starts off with a quote from some wise dead person such as Voltaire or Oscar Wilde and then follows that up with the kind of generic writing that a show like "The Wire" would reject out of hand. Even the brainy doctor played by Matthew Gray Gubler spouts plenty of lines that sound more obvious than brainy.

Back to the topic. There is so much good TV out there especially from the US instead of CSI which could be shown on RTE2. There are so many shows which have the potential to be a hit for RTE like Heroes, Brothers and Sisters, What About Brian that RTE couldn't be bothered to show.

No, theres not too much of CSI on. If anything, more of it should be scheduled if possible, I would love to see it replace shíte shows such as Ugly Betty

    .

    Don't you have five channels?
ABC, SBS, Seven, Nine and Ten?
The first two are the only ones worth watching really. A respite from ads anyway.

In answer to the question, yes there's far too much Murder-by-Numbers style programmes on TV, not just CSI.
Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.
And, yes, it's even worse when you don't have digital!

Not enough! When's it on again? Wednesdays and Thursdays? Sure that's only twice a week!

Too much CSI? Thats an oxymoron! I once watched 13 episodes straight.

I voted yes but not because I think they show too much but because it is all over the place. When you press the info button on Living tv it tells you what season that episode is from. The other night I pressed info of one CSI and it said that it was a crime programme showing the forensic side....... How the hell do I know if I have seen it or not (no smart comments about watching the first 5 mins)

New CSI Vegas is on Friday nights and repeated on Sunday nights on Livingtv. Simple to follow. I hope they started the new Miami soon.

Criminal minds is fantastic but I love Law & Order and most other crime shows too :o . I saw season 1 and the first episode of 2. Hopefully Livingtv will start season 2 soon.

I could watch CSI Vegas 24/7 as its my favourite. am not a big fan of the other 2 - even though they are similar and stuff - i just love Grissom so i guess thats it for me with Vegas

    - I think Living have a good set up with it and you can see what episode is on and you have an idea if you have seen it. it says what the story line is but the best is that they put the season in brackets so you know wht season they are showing!
    - If RTE done that at least you know where you are with the shows!

I love all the CSI's Miami being my favorite just wish they would show Ny after the soccer instead of postponing it.

NCIS is very underrated IMHO as i think the cast gels a lot better than on any of the CSI shows

The point I am trying to make is that with each of the CSI's, they are esentially the same. They may have different cities and cases but at the end of the day once you have seen one you have seen them all. RTE should try harder to give more choice to RTE2 viewers during primetime. The US shows that the shun and ones that haven;t been shown yet have the ability to match the CSI franchise's ratings or even exceed them as CSI ratings are nothing to shout home about.

I pretty much agree. The equivalent franchise monster - Law & Order - at least has differences between the series. One is normal homicide with an equal balance of trial/crime.
The other is sex crimes, which presents a different variety of cases and is more focused on the lives of the detectives. Slightly less emphasis on trial too.
The third - "Criminal Intent" is very different again. We rarely see anything go to trial and instead the series presents episodes with far more convouted plots led by a neurotic Holmes-esque figure.

CSI's varities tend to be the city and whether they work day or night shifts..

My beloved Goren neurotic! Never! If I had my way rte2 would only show CSI's and Law and Order's :D

So you don't want variety. There are loads more quality US TV shows that RTE could show.

as a license fee payer i would like RTÉ to set up a channel devoted to police dramas ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

I clearly don't want variety. Its not the amount of CSI being shown - its the scheduling thats the problem. They show half a series here and there and throw them all together when they have nothing else to show.

I think CSI is a dreadful show, the pacing is ****, there is zero drama as the crimes have generally already been commited and its just a case of bodies in morques week in week out, and scrapping fingernails, I find it dreadfully dull....

...Criminal Minds on the other hand, good show.

I've never understood the popularity of CSI anyhow, I find the pacing of the show to be bad, and because the crimes have been commited as soon as an episode begins, for me there is no drama, just a 40 minute trip to the morque to scrape fingernails....

I find Criminal Minds to be a far superior show...
