Is anywhere in Dublin taking preorders for the PS3, or have I left it too soon, to get one at launch?

gamestop (afaik), smyths and xtravision have "open" pre-orders (i.e. first come, first served for pre-ordering for a certain period of time... still ongoing). game are working a different system.

if you pre-order and they can't fulfill your slot by giving you a machine, you'll either get a refund of your deposit, or the second wave will be for pre-orders too (like the Wii, i'd imagine)...

Has anybody considered the fact that due to a lack of demand in both Asia and the Usa we might get more ps3's shipped to Europe then people may think?

I think GAME's approach is the best one, don't take pre-orders until you know your allocation.I'm first on their list of people to ring when pre-orders are being taken. And I have three other bookings down already.

It can still leave some people disappointed as I learned with the Wii. We were given a number by Ninty for launch so we took that many pre-orders, then Ninty tell us we aint getting that many. Sucked for people, but at least we filled them all before Christmas!

I'm very interested to see what our allocation is. I heard tell theres 1 million units for Europe and 300,000 for UK (in which Ireland is included).

Xtravision have been taking them for months. I'd say it might be a bit late for them now because alot of people have probably already registered but might be worth a go.

If your not in the first five on the list in an Xtra Vision I doubt there is much hope for a console on launch day.I'm 1st on the list in my local, and I'm first on the list in GAME on Dawson street, I also have a deposit in Smyth's, so I have high hopes for me getting one without too much trouble come march.
Remember when I get my console I will have spare deposits for anyone who wants one.

I have heard from a fairly reliable source that Irish stores are getting a massive amountof PS3's for launch date. Have mine pre-ordered already but there shouldn't be too many problems from what I have heard

The thing about console launches is that you can never really fully depend on what you hear.I would still say to be safe just get a deposit down just in-case.

it's a possibility but sony might be banking on european hype to push gains in the states.

but 1 million consoles is a lot of machines. 300k in the UK, i'd say we'll get a lot too. remember, gaming in europe really means ireland, UK, germany & spain.
