Not sure if this is the right place BUT:

For many years i have had chronic, severe ear infections which are wrecking my life. I have had every hospital treatment available and none have helped. The docs say there is nothing more they can do and i will just have to live with it (the infections are so severe i frequently end up hospitalised on a morphine drip.)

I am in constant pain/discomfort. I have also tried homeopathy but it didn't help. In desperation i have even tried reiki and spiritual healing. Still the problem remains. Does anyone here know of any other remedies i could try?

Long shot, but.... Inidan Head Massage?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

i know my sister kept getting ear infections... but then they just stopped happening. she has given up dairy, but i'm not sure if that was related. i may get back to you if i have any more ideas... have you any large stress in your life; that might trigger it?

ok, i checked; most definatly dairy. my mum gave it up aswell after having ear problems. thats no milk, yoghurt, cheese, butter etc. not hard to do at all. and the vegan/vegetarian forum are great if you have difficulties trying it out. soya milk is very available in tesco (there are plenty of other milks to try, but soya is the best taste wise, and price wise; trust me!). also, "pure" spread is a soya and vegetable spread available also in tesco. not to mention the huge amount of other alternatives available in health food shops. you can pm me if you have any questions :D good luck!

Just have to Sympathise StormWarrior. I suffered from ear infections when I was younger and I'll never forget the agony. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Do you swim at all? Keep your ears completely dry if possible - I know swimming makes things a lot worse although I'm sure you know all that already.

Good luck with it ..... oh what age are you? Mine just stopped too by the way, can't attribute it to anything though.

Thanks for the replies. I don't eat dairy (although the homeopath told me to give up yeast which i have pretty much done)

I never swim, and use cotton wool and vaseline in my ears when washing my hair.

I'm 23, and I've had this problem since I was 16. I don't really have any stress in my life at all right now, apart from these infections.

Does indian head massage work for this kind of stuff?

Have they always been treating the ear infections?
What kind of test have they done?
    Have they completed blood checks?

My sister had a cough for years which was being treated as that. It turned out she had a bone disease, go figure.

What I'm trying to say is that perhaps the ear infection is a symptom rather than the cause.

    ?

Having attended the Eye & Ear I can empathise

Have you seen a specialist, have they swabbed to identify the infection? TBH it sounds like your ears have never cured properly, and so you just have the same infection re occuring

They do swab it every few times, sometimes it's bacteria, sometimes fungal. I have exzema inside the ear canal, which they say is the cause, because it lets germs in.

They treat it with ear drops, oral antibiotics, microsuction, wicks and some creams and lotions to treat the exzema in between infections but nothing works long term and of course these things have side effects.

They've never done blood tests for my ear infections.

b3t4 - how serious was your sister's disease?

have you tried ear candleing? i used to suffer really badly with ear infections - including burst absyss's (spelling...) in my ear canal.

the ear candleing worked for me - haven't had a bad infection in years, touch wood.

i also have eczema in my ear canal. it sucks, and its a bugger to clear.

try to avoid touching your ears if at all possible - bacteria can get in then easier.

Get an allergy test done in a Vega clinic.

Not that serious. All she needed was a two week course of anti-biotics in the end. She's been fine ever since. It was the 10yrs waiting for the diagnosis that messed things up. Her teeth are ruined because of all the anti-biotics she was given over the years. Her immune system was crap as well so she would catch everything and anything.

My thoughts are that you should try to boost your immune system as much as possible. Upping your vitamin c intake and getting tests to see if your system is low in any particular nutrient might help. Perhaps taking the low-fat actimel drinks might help, my doc recommended them when I was sick a while back. If you can improve your immune system then the ear infections might not take as much of a hold on you.

    Just my thought on things,
    A.

Have you had your diet reviewed, or drinking habits, or smoking (if applicable)?

I've read that ear candles shouldn't be used on someone with infections, because they're used to get rid of wax, and infections are often worsened because there's not enough wax already. But i will ask my doctor to make sure.

The homeopath told me to avoid yeast, tap water, peppers and sugar, which i am pretty much sticking to. I have never smoked. I also take probiotics after every course of antibiotics.

I'll look into allergy testing, although thats pretty much what the homeopath did with me.
