I saw McSavage in college a few years back and I thought he was great. I have seen him a few times since and he has been very dissappointing. This may have been just the shows and interviews I have seen but even so, I would no longer pay to see just his show.

    He is a cnutroversialist.

    He had one previously:
    I am a jew
    I am a jew
    and it is 1942
    and I live in Germany

    Uh Oh.

He is fairly funny but more interested in being shocking than in being funny.
Very few people think he is funny. I think he is hilarious.

If DMS is that tit that annoys people in Temple Bar, I'm thankful for anything that brings opprobrium on his head; even if he's not really guilty in this instance.

Its probably only the presence of CCTV in Temple Bar that has stopped him being beaten to death over the years.

I think he's hilarious! But it's obvious he's out to shock. I like that humour though

    Aye, so it is him.

He got semi aggressive with us once in Temple Bar. We looked back at his comments cos we didn't hear them properly and he started acting hard and gave all this ooh are you starting with me a*se.

I wouldn't mind a bit of cutting observational humor, even against myself in public, but he was just sneering TBH.

The furore about this is probably just people wanting to believe the worst and I can't really blame them.

    Pity that.

could you do him for slander if he said something about you?

I saw him harangue a girl who was walking past him - she said "do you do this for a living?" and he said "yeah" she said "how long have you been doing it for?" and he said something like "all my life in one way or another" She said "well, if you're still forced to stand on the street to do it, you must be pretty **** at it" and walked off. Biggest laugh of the act.

Ive seen McSavage on the street and he cracked the whole crowd up. Most of those getting abuse deserved it tbh (goths, rockers, obese couples in matching shellsuits etc)

I love the deserved it part. Just really sums up McSavage and the people who like him :)

Now then, if the guy was LumpBasher then that is the funniest thing ever, i had a nice little war with him at one time! Great fun all together, he was about as articulate as rear end of a moose.

Do him for what? He's a failing comedian.

If you sued him the only things he could offer you are that bag of DVDs he tries to flog and a spare set of strings.

Ironically the last time I saw this guy was at the "Stand up against racism" gig in Vicar St a couple of years ago with David O'Doherty presenting and Tommy Tiernan as the main act (there were 9 acts or something throughout the night).

We'd all had a whole rake of drink before he came on and thought he wasn't as bad as we'd first thought. Maybe it was the drink thinking though...

I've seen him many a time in Temple Bar and he's one of the least funny comedians I've ever seen... even worse than Jason Byrne and that's saying something...

didnt read the whole thread as it was the same old crap everyone posts about him

i tought he was hilarious when i saw him in vicar street and i saw him in vicar i saw him in gibneys twice and it was the same old stuff but then saw him in town again and his adlib stuff is hilarious

he does take things very far and especially with slagging off random people as some people just cant take a slagging...and before you say it i was his victim twice but you gotta get over these things. i look at it like this if you go to a cartoonist on the street he is going to draw you and eccentuate all your bad features to make it funny dave mcsavge is the same i understand people hating him and walking out if they just go to a comedy show and dont know who is on the line up and they do not like him but if you have been to a show and have laughed your ass off its not on that you leave and bitch about him just coz all of a sudden you were the victim for a sec

sorry that was a large paragraph and im tired flame me for my bad spelling or punctuation if you want i dont really care

Dave McSavage is in the Sunday Mirror today, apparently most of the people who paid to see his show walked out - not for the usual reason, because his show is sh*t - when he started spouting racist comments, including calling Big Brother contestant Shilpa Shetty a "paki".

They also go on to say he was arrested last year for selling copies of his DVD on Grafton St without a casual trading licence.

When will this guy realise he is not going to make it as a real comedian?
He says in retaliation that his act reflects real life - IMO he just appeals to the lowest common denominator.

I'm not sure I follow, is the only issue that he used the word 'Paki', or that he was incorrect as she hails from India?

Frankly I don't see how using the word 'Paki' generally is racist, its an abreviation to me, Is 'Aussie' a racist term for an Australian? 'Brit' for British?

With that said, I do not know if McSavage is racist.

But generally speaking, for me Racism is about the context and feeling behind things, not a word.

McSavage can be moderately funny at times (and I stress at times), but I don't think his tactics are fair. If you go to a comedy gig you know there is a potential to be slagged and you accept that. If you and just walking down the street you have not put yourself forward to be made fun of (in what is usually a viscious way). Its cheap. I don't like him. Also have heard stories of him being a complete dick during interviews etc. Rudeness is something I can never tolerate.

I had a few drinks with the guy in the International after a gig several years ago , he was ok when just chatting amongst us but whenever anyone else came along he put on his Mr. Controversy act to try and impress people. Said Tiernan was a c*nt who didn't deserve his success too. Says it all really. He was refused entry to Renards later that night too. Ha.

my apologies i meant to say as it was the same crap about him on the first page

I think that when you go and see a comedian, especially one with the reputation of DMS, there is no complaint if you are picked out of the audience and slagged.

It's just the heckling on the street that I don't like and he's very very lucky he didn't get a slap that day. He obviously did his routine in Temple Bar because the cameras prevented him from getting his head kicked in.

First Dave McSavage is a crap comedian.

I can see how you would come to this conclusion Rigger but Paki is *generally* used as a racist remark.

Years ago, back in the day, I was a little scumbag. Me along with a few mate, who I don't hang around with anymore, bought a bag of maggots from that fishing shop in Temple Bar. We then threw the bag at him and his guitar for insulting us, then we legged it.

For years after, I felt guilty about doing it and I would often think about what a scumbagish thing it was to do. But to be honest, thinking harder about it, I'm fucking glad I did it.

[edit]Is he still doing that stupid women from around the world having sex act?

Ok but only if I can use them for protection in town! Heading in on Paddy's night, what was I thinking!

Suppose I could hurl a few at the stage for good measure.
