avi/divx screen size ?

I notice when I play a downloaded avi or divx file on my home through my home dvd player on my 32" tv I never get to see the full edge to edge picture, see link below for pic If I view the video on the PC it's fine I see the whole film area, The inner pink line is approximately the area I get to view on my TV, any ideas ?…
