Retro gaming and car boot sales?

    Hi all,

    For a while I have been browsing through the British Retro Gamer magazine forums and the people there are always talking about what they have bought in the previous weekends car boot sales.

    Car boot sales seem to be a tradition in the UK, but sadly they are pretty thin on the ground here.

    I would love if there was any around, that may have old computers, consoles, games, accessories for sale. Yes, I know about Ebay but a car boot sale would be a bit of a laugh, a good way to spend a boring Sunday, and have the added advantage of being able to play what you bought straight away.

    So anyone know of any?
    Or any bricks and mortar shops to buy retro stuff?

    The only one I know is in Crosshaven,Cork I think, but it's a bit of a drive to check out.

    yeah , its a pain alright the:" oh I just picked up a rake of retro stuff at the local carboot sale for nothing " threads.(i'm dr_bob over there btw)
    The ones here tend to just consist of guys selling dodgy pirate dvds and knocked off industrial size boxes of daz.
    To be honest my >meagre< collection has been built up via ebay , one shop in dublin (see below)and the odd kind friend .Oh and redeye daytrip trips to the memorabilia collectors thingy in Birmingham help too.
    Only place I know to buy retro stuff here is the bookexchange in talbot st.
    Its run by a nice enough bloke , and they've a decent selection of Meg/Snes etc games (and a shoebox full of unboxed ones behind the counter).

    Its fairly steeply priced alright though he does give me a discount!
    And I think it was I that cleared him out!
    As for Carboot sales, most of such things are done here at Sunday Markets, the best of which is the one outside Balbriggan, just off the M1, I got an Atari7800 plus a ton of games for 10, amongst other things like my 6 switch Woody 2600, the rare one.

    Thats just down the road from me. Should check it out. Last time I was there it was just scumbags running away from the police with their copied DVDs and people selling repainted stolen tools.
