Before I get any clever answers like 'it's very deer' or the like, can anyone answer the above?

If cooked correctly, it can be like a very lean fillet steak or tender piece of roast beef. It's excellent with a good red wine.

It has a lovely gamey taste, which some people don't like especially if it's wild venison as opposed to farmed.

If you live in Dublin there's a guy that sells it at the Temple Bar Market on Saturdays or Lawlor's butchers on the Upr Rathmines Rd will get you some if you ask for it. The organic butchers up in Terenure both do it too.

M&S also have some venison stuff in their "Cook" range.
