Microsoft have made the May 2006 edition of their MSDN library available as a free download. It's available from here. Be warned though, it's a hefty 1.7Gb download spread across 3 ISO images.

    Just updating this thread.

Link above is outdated. MSDN Library December 2006 DVD free download link is
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=94596af5-cc58-45af-a14b-df627a31e783&DisplayLang=en

    1940 MB in size.

As the old link has expired, I'm not sure just what is different about this latest hefty download. The page itself mentions updated "content sets" to the following:
    • Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals
    • Visual Studio 2005 Documentation
    • Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office System
    • Microsoft Knowledge Base

As we don't use Visual Studio 2005 here I wonder if it's worth the download at all? Does anyone have any advice on this?

Not really, if you don't have spare time, or particular need. Just the usual newer articles from MS magazines, a few new samples and info on Office/Vista/Server suite '07.

But worth reinstalling every year or so imo.

I probably won't bother with the download right now. The existing help files will do fine.
