It'd be fun if we all described ourselves so we can spend the next month trying to figure out who the other people are as we're walking around the college. As detailed as possible descriptions, please. That means no fair saying you have medium length brown hair and blue eyes and are about 5'5'' if you're a girl.... we want to see your quirky bits!

Not THOSE quirky bits. Get your mind out of the gutter.
    I was thinking that today

    Or just had pictures
I don't have any good ones though

I was thinking along those lines too. Perhaps, for Hilary's benefit, you could introduce a tactile test, a more hands-on sort of squeezing thing...?

Ok. You each have to wear a pair of those blue swimming trunks that Daniel Craig wears in Casino Royale, and emerge from a large body of water - let's say the beach at Killiney - looking wet, sullen and rideable. The tactile part of the test will then commence. Unfortunately I'm having trouble deciding exactly what this should entail. Any/all suggestions will be considered.

I say that we do this the old fashioned way:

Ibid, myself and QBar on a Friday - the person with the most STD's by the end of the night wins!

    Classy :p

Rant/bitch/moan: Tickets for that gig that I so badly wanted to go to sold out in about 4 seconds this morning and I didn't get one. Damn Ticketmaster allowing for unlimited numbers of tickets to be bought by anyone.

    /kicks stuff

That's hardly fair since Ibid has a substantial head start.

Oh Lonfordian Physicist! Max Planck wanted to be an economist but he found it too difficult. (Last Paragraph). And probably Ireland's greatest economist came from Longford.

    That's all.

bah just realised my holiday next week will be costing me an extra 250+ in lost earnings due to not being about :/ and a new class i'm teaching starts that week so someone has to cover my first week not ideal....

Aye, think they named the town after him, or his family or something. Or maybe something completely different

Yeah but he probably just wanted to talk himself out of retooling his brain and climbin' the ladder in another dicipline. Also, I'm not sure I trust that article seeing as it's written by one of your heathen cohorts, nor do I understand its relevance!

The article, the one it cites, and from the looks of it the one the book cites too are all written by economists, about something which may have happened during a dinner conversation. if it did indeed occur Max Planck may have just being modest.Even still, using a dinner converstion as the basis for all that citation seems highly dubious imo, sounds like a lost of postureing to make yer field sound hard(i'm not saying its easy), ye don't see everyone else going around writing papers trying to tell the world what we do is hard...(or well if we do i haven't seen any)

Well it's almost certainly true, but that's aside the point. Would yeh ever relax? It's the same as saying "Haha, your team lost!" It's a little bit of fun, well-humoured rivalry. Economists don't pin their flag to physicists' admissions, we don't even pin in to any other field; we focus on the actual subject.

    It's just fun to poke.

i like to remain consistent enda.....and maybe a bit caffine wired......... though is it not poor form to quote a book which actually quotes something else for the info?(on an idle point)

Of course not. I read the quote in Microeconomic Theory by Layard and Walters. I googled for a reference, which was consistent with the Layard and Walters book.

If you read a newspaper article, say on immigration, that refers to an ESRI report on job displacement, is it poor form to point to said newspaper? Not tat tall.

I think you both make valid arguments here, so to celebrate, here's a picture of Daniel Craig.

Physics is harder than economics but I'd like to see you all integrate biochemical, pysiological, anatomical and behavioural theories into a working model of memory. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

Just when I was starting to get really into physiology, it starts to throw a load of acronyms and equations at me about heart volume and blood pressure gradients. Feh! I don't want equations! Go away!
