You each have to wear a pair of those blue swimming trunks that Daniel Craig wears in Casino Royale, and emerge from a large body of water - let's say the beach at Killiney - looking wet, sullen and rideable. The tactile part of the test will then commence. Unfortunately I'm having trouble deciding exactly what this should entail. Any/all suggestions will be considered.

The article, the one it cites, and from the looks of it the one the book cites too are all written by economists, about something which may have happened during a dinner conversation. if it did indeed occur Max Planck may have just being modest.Even still, using a dinner converstion as the basis for all that citation seems highly dubious imo, sounds like a lost of postureing to make yer field sound hard(i'm not saying its easy), ye don't see everyone else going around writing papers trying to tell the world what we do is hard...(or well if we do i haven't seen any)

Well it's almost certainly true, but that's aside the point. Would yeh ever relax? It's the same as saying "Haha, your team lost!" It's a little bit of fun, well-humoured rivalry. Economists don't pin their flag to physicists' admissions, we don't even pin in to any other field; we focus on the actual subject.

It's just fun to poke.

Of course not. I read the quote in Microeconomic Theory by Layard and Walters. I googled for a reference, which was consistent with the Layard and Walters book.

If you read a newspaper article, say on immigration, that refers to an ESRI report on job displacement, is it poor form to point to said newspaper? Not tat tall.
