GC Games on Wii - wi-fi mulitplayer ?

    Maybe you can do this, I assume you can't as I haven't heard anything about it....

    I was just wondering if anybody heard why the Broadband compatible games, such As Mario Kart DD (i.e. games that used to GC Broadband adapter to link to another GC) don't have the functionality to use the built in WiFi on the Wii and use the internet to connect to other MK:DD Games.

    It should have been quite simple to add an extra layer to the GC Compatibility and make it think it was talking directly to another GC locally via the BB adapter, when in fact it was talking to another Wii running the same game over the internet.

    You used to be able to do this with the help of a client program runing on the PC, that fooled the GC into thinking it had a local connection to the other GC...

    Anyhow - I was wondering, like I siad, if anybody heard why this wasn't implemented on the Wii. It wouldn't have been that hard to do and they would have been on to a winner with the multiplayer GC games.....

    Basically as it wasn't coded into the gamecube games, it couldn't be done. The Lan play is not set to search for available games over the internet.

    Through the PC it was fine, as you were telling it exactly where to connect to, and fooling it into thinking it was just over the LAN. But on the Wii there's no way to tell it where to connect over the internet connection.

    I'd disagree:
    - Search for all your friends that are online (registered in address book)
    - Pick someone from a list that is also looking for games; that essentially gives you an IP address you can resolve to
    - Use the same tunnelling type protocol as the PC client for LAN games did
    - Play the game
