I know aluminiu is pretty light but i'd guess there is also more flex than with a slightly heavier steel frame.

what is the general school of thought on the use of aluminium for track bikes (entry level)?

i want to build up a track fram for road use that could also potentially be used for racing - with a few adjustments.

An aluminium frame is likely to have less flex due to the larger diameter tubes.

For a road fixed gear I'd go for a steel frame but if you're racing then speed and stiffness outweigh comfort so aluminium would be better.
