The hydro-theraputic stimulator had me in stitches.... Similarly with Van Halen's device, the illustration was fantastic!

This afternoon I watched a thirty-minute video entitled Burgen am Rhein ("Castles on the Rhine") with my brother. He's doing a project about the Rhine, and his German teacher gave him this. It was cringeworthy.

I went down most of the German part of the Rhine by boat, and it was quite beautiful, all right. I much preferred the real thing to the video.

I should be doing my lab report of death, but instead I'm reading this blog, it's really interesting. It's about a cognitively disabled 9 year old girl, whose parents opted to give her oestrogen treatment and a hysterectomy, to prevent her from undergoing puberty, basically keeping her in the body of a 9-year-old child for life. Scroll down two entries, and the parents detail exactly how they did it, and all their reasons and thinking behind it.

Yeah I read about that in a couple of newspapers, still not entirely sure what to make of it. It sounds like the treatment will increase her quality of life and the ability of her parents to look after her in the future (something that should not be underestimated imo), but there's a fine line between what's best for her and what's handiest for her parents. The blog is great though - v articulate, rational and not overly-emotional, espec given the sensitive topic.

Yeah, that's what struck me about it, too. Aside from the references to her being a "Pillow Angel", they didn't opt to appeal to emotion to excess. It was refreshingly free of sap.
