goddam it if they are asking a western audience to watch this it needs a bit of rock music.

Whilst understanding that their target audience is generally Arabic, there are catchy Arabic tunes as well. I know, I've heard them. They could at least use some of those.

    Lol.

Interesting video all the same, hard to tell how effective the shots were but he seemed to be pretty damn good at the job anyway. Whats also interesting is that this sniper, or snipers, managed to take out or injure a bunch of US Soldiers without being caught. Given the extreme technological advantage that the US army would have over the Iraqi rebels/insurgants that is.

A lot of them have been caught eventually. Sometimes the video is captured at that moment, as happened in the Tschiderer case, or that of some convoy that got ambused, sometimes they're caught a whiles later. In one case, a sniper was caught about a year and a half after he started.

That they're not caught instantly shouldn't be a surprise. It's very hard to pinpoint a sniper with only a single gunshot to work from. There are technological solutions to the problem: For example, there is a HMMWV-mounted system that tracks the origin and then automatically sends a nice long burst of .50 cal back the way it came from, but unsurprisingly there is reluctance to use this system in an urban area: Would you support the use of a fully-automated computer-controlled heavy machinegun in a town?

It's pretty commonly accepted that Juba is a propogandic myth. There's been a lot of arguement is it's US or native propoganda and stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juba_(sniper)

I doubt it's propaganda. Some of the Juba clips I've seen have been head-shots, and you see the spray/mist afterward, similar to that colour shot of JFK being shot.

I'd say Juba is a network of snipers rather than an individual. It's good that they are doing this. Few slated De Gaulle and the Free French when their country was invaded, this is just a 21st Century version. Not only are they civilians resisting an illegal invasion, but they are using the media to show their determination.

The exposure in the media of what was happening to US troops when they invaded Vietnam was a major factor on public opinion, and again the same with these Juba clips.

I don't see anything wrong with showing these clips to the world for free. CNN show similar clips, then cut to an ad break.

Bottom line is that the Unilateral System of Agression excercised by the Americans, and the American public who have mandated it by voting the same regime back into power, is the agent of evil.

I hope that doesn't sound too much like rhetoric, but in this conflict, the them is the US.

No, no rhetoric there at all...

Mods, any chance of a move to the military forum? That way we can talk about sniping ad nauseum without worrying about the political rhetoric crowd coming in.

The point about injuries using up resources only really counts when one injury (or series of individual injuries) occupies a disproportionate percentage of available resources.

Ah, yes. It's times like these that the nausea and distaste fade and the true disgust emerges. (emo? \o/) Thread locked. Try discussing snipers in the Military forum, if you must.
