Celebrity Lectures Reunion

Colm and Caitriona (and some other people probably......) have put together, for the second time an annual Christmas 'reunion' where all the smart kids come together to learn. And talk to their friends, of course. Set nicely in the Terence Larkin theatre in DCU, a promising venue so that CTYI-ers may reminisce upon happy times, it was quite boring last time, but great way to see everyone again.

All who attended Summer programmes in '05 and '06 may attend, entrance fee of 5 euro, non-ctyiers may attend also (a new development) and to be honest, it seems quite interesting.

So who all are going? May as well, just to see everyone.

I haven't gotten anything about it. When is it? And how is it a celebrity reunion?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Well, now that we're all famous nevermores, we can go back and bask in the glow of awe-struck n00bs, see?

I got the letter today. It's on on the 9th of December at 12.15, the event is called 'Celebrity Obsessions'. it also says to email catriona to let her know if you plan on going at catriona.fitzgerald@dcu.ie each CTYIer can bring up to 2 non-CTYIers

....no. I'm a nevermore and I really can't see me basking in any sort of glow, or striking n00blets with awe.

Shiney/Cliodhna did the letter say who'd be doing the lecture?

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭Shiney

    about 5 speakers:

    "Celebrity Obsession"

The Celebrity - speaker to be confirmed

The Legal Perspective - Mr. Eoin Carolan, TCD

    (Coffee Break)

The Psychology of Celebrity - Dr. Finian Buckley, DCU

The Paparazzi - Mr. Sean Fitzpatrick

The Quest for Perfection - speaker to be confirmed

Each talk is 20min long with 15min allocated for questions

    Got the letter today.
When/if emailing catriona, you have to put Celebrity in the subject.
It'll be interesting to see who they consider a celebrity. Since it's "to be confirmed", I'm guessing their introduction will generate a good deal of "who?" in the theatre.

Well if you can't strike them with awe. . .

    My question is this:

Is it SOOOOO worth coming all the way from Waterford? AND paying a fiver.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,295 ✭✭✭Acid_Violet

To see everyone again and because you enjoyed CTYI thoroughly? Or maybe the cons outwweighs the pros, your choice.

Alas, I will be elsewhere. Have fun without me, kiddies.

(Yes, most of the people who've posted in this are older than me, shut up :p)

Reunion? Celebrity? Hitting n00bs with tables?! I am so there! (hopefully)

    Assa spirit!

/me holds head in hands and then goes to get his "educating-stick"

    LEARN TO READ!

No where in the letter does it imply that a celebrity of any sort will be there. The first lecture is on the nature of celebrity - what a celebrity is - not delivered by a celebrity.

For my part I found last years lectures on crime quite interesting and it's a good excuse to see people and loiter around DCU so shall most likely be in attendance.

Also: according to my letter anyone who attended in '05 or '06 should have been invited.

Jesus John calm down, in the letter it said that the "celebrity" was tbc.

No, it says "The Celebrity" - speaker to be confirmed.

If you read the blurb it would be more obvious that it wasn't neccesarily a celebrity making the speech.

Yeah, the crime ones last year were pretty dull, (unless they got better - I had to go before the end) but it was good to see people, and there were some interesting points. I don't like the way CTYIzens in big groups are so mean to speakers. Sometimes it's just plain silly and immature.

I would be going this year, especially since it sounds like it might be a bit more interesting, except that I'm not free. But have fun!

And yes, I'm with the the-talk-is-on-The-Celebrity-not-given-by-a-celebrity camp. It's a teenchy bit ambiguous but not really if you read it properly.

    So who else is going?

    And yes, Zounds is right.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 652 ✭✭✭Jim_Are_Great

    I might be going. Maybe...

Hmm... This'd be so much easier if I knew whether or not I was going...

    i shant be going.
