I've noticed a lot of men doing this, my other half included, why do they feel the need to bring reading matter into the loo when moving their bowels? If the body is ready to excrete the waste it should be a fairly quick affair  Are they forcing it out or what?

I don't bring a paper but find myself reading whatever is to hand.

I reckon it's for quiet time!!! Or, depending on the reading material it could be something requiring a little more privacy!! ;)

Just because a lad goes to the loo doesn't necessarily mean he's going for a Number 2. A lot of the time Pighead goes into a cubicle just to get a break from the constant moaning and nagging of the chicks in his life. I call it "Cubicle Of Calmly Quiet" Time or COCQ Time for short.

I thought I was the only one who hated that. It's so unhygienic especially at work when people take the communal paper. It's even worse when they leave it on the floor for someone else to remove. Yuck. :(

I would make about 3 trips a day to the loo, and if possible i will bring something to read, it can take anywhere from 2 minutes up to 15, so boredom tends to become a factor on the longer trips.

Nothing wrong with it! I read books, play games and play guitar on the bog sometimes.

Would you prefer men to have sex simply to empty their testicles quickly? Perfection takes time, and all good things come to those that wait... etc

I find it to be quite the relaxing affair.. when the world is rushing by, there's nothing like grabbing the Indo/Times/anything at all and heading off to the dump-machine.

2 minutes might actually be spent doing the business.. the other 18 are spent reading the paper :D

I'll take your 'Men bringing newspapers to the loo' question, and I'll raise you a 'Women going to the bathroom in 2's and 3's' question! :D

But yeah..."Perfection takes time, and all good things come to those that wait... etc"

we do it because when we go for a number 2 we dont dont think about make-up or hair or a nail we broke that morning or that pair of shoes we saw that we MUST have.
like other people have said, whatever is at hand we read, i know the back of a domestos bottle off by heart now!

Yeah, my mother's always going on at me for that when I'm at home. TBH I see it as proof that men can indeed multi-task.

What's so complicated about the process of moving one's bowels that women are unable to keep up with current affairs whilst doing it? :p

women don't poo, so they just don't know what it's like to sit there and begin contemplating life. i've come up with so many ideas for scripts and stuff while on the loo :)

can't really read newspapers on it. i did try playing my psp once though :D

Newspaper flyers like Aldi or Expert leaflets come in handy.
Pictures to look at, not too much text, enough to keep you occupied but not too much so you don't have to spend ages sitting in your own cloud because you have to finish reading that article. :D:D:D

I don't bring anything in usually, cos my movements are for the most part quite rapid.

If I'm in work I sometimes bring in a paper and look at the front page (only if I have it to hand), or else I play a game on my phone. Just cos it gives me time to relax :) lol

I usually take about 3 minutes tops in the bathroom at any one time but once I did take my DS with me, playing Advance Wars. Was still on the jacks about 90 minutes later.

I find my en-suite at home to be a supremely relaxing room. Sometimes I'll get just my book and sit in there, reading. My bathroom in my flat isn't so nice because my flatmate also uses it, and may wonder what I'm doing in there for long periods of time. Also, the colours aren't as soothing.

You really wouldn't want to know the horrifying, haunting truth.

Let's say it's about peace and quiet where nobody wants to disturb you.....

Reading on the jax is one of life's little pleasures. Altho playin guitar can be tricky. I find its the best time to play games in me moby.

Just always remember to put the lid down before you flush..... (those of you who saw the late late show a few weeksn ago will know what i mean...)

Another big pleasure for a man is peeing sitting down. i love it and i bet lots of other guys do too.

a man sitting down for a pee is called a peemale, being either too lazy or too drunk to pee standing up

"OK who took page 3?" :)

Times when there is nothing to read, I just whip out.....the mobile and play a game on it, or read through a few drunken text messages I got and laugh at them.

Perhaps men are being practical? It seems like a natural outcome after reading the Herald.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Muzzy

As pointed out, it's not neccessarly the reading but the timeout in a quite place where nobody can bother you that does it for me.

I usually read through my texts and sort out and clean up stuff on my phone. Or in public toilets, read all the stuff that people scratch into the doors and walls.

.......Come to think of it, at lunch today and went into the jacks and in the cubical next to me was a guy taking pictures of god knows what, hopefully some great artwork/graffiti on the door or something!!

i normally empty my phone's inbox while sitting on the loo,
i dnot really understand brining newspapers there....
the phone is in the pocket and convenient, a newspaper has to be planned and brought there intentionally

Reading on the toilet is great.

In my jacks at home I have issues of FourFourTwo, The Far Side books, a Shakespeare Quotes book, Shampoo Bottle and some issues of Q Magazine.
