eh that actually aint season 5 it s just been marketed in uk and ireland as season 5,its really seaon 4 part 2
Yes.. we all know that.. it's been discussed to death (and then some!)

But the OP won't have much look in Xtra-Vision looking for 'Family Guy - Season 4 (Part 2)' on DVD!

    D'ya agree?

PS - the newer episodes still provide me with a few weekly giggles.. not as good as seasons 1 - 3, but the cultural references still win me over. Movie was muck though!

It's IS boxed as "Season 5" - right? Not "Family Guy - Season 4.5"? (i.e they're not going all 'Battlestar Galactica' on me!) :D

Airs on Fox in the US. Stopped making episodes? All these episodes seem to disagree with that statement:

The last episode in season 3 was Feb 14 2002 and the first of season 4 was May 1st 2005. They stopped making it for 3 years after it being canceled by FOX which I think was GO's point.

Yep.. i realise that. Practically any fan with access to the Internet i'm sure knew it.

But i was just rectifying the following comments:

ah ok. Nice early xmas present though to discover that you have a whole bunch of episodes to watch that you've never seen before !

    I hate it.

Every episode is a series of nonsensical sh**e, obscure celebrity references and predictable jokes. But then what would expect from a show written by Manatees.

I haven't seen a single coherant episode. South Park is the king.

Haha I must laugh at people trying to subtly prove that they are true fans.

I find South Park soooooooooo boring a lot of the time. Can be funny though, but family guy is way better.

Oh and by the way, why DID they market season 4 part 2 as season 5? its stupid! so are they going to release season 4 part two as season 6??!!

Havent been following South Park in ages - not since the first couple of seasons - but I saw the episode where cartman hates Family Guy. As was said earlier, sums up a lot of family guy's problems (to me) very well. Watched Stewie's movie last weekend, given to me by a friend who loves it, I laughed once, I think. Maybe it was a chuckle. I think I've grown up. I had liked FG at one stage and have the DVDs for the first three seasons.

It was so tragic, Family Guy was always like a poor man's Simpsons. Resorting to madcap humour and just strange, strange jokes. Then, suddenly Simpsons was ripping that off. And became a poor man's Family Guy. Where did it go so wrong???:(
    Simpsons R.I.P.

While I enjoy the show, it annoys me that it is still going while Futurama is off the air.
I remember they both premiered on the same night a couple of years ago on Sky One, and since I have always compared them as sort of rivals. Family Guy is simply a semi-enjoyable slice of randomness, while Futurama is the most intelligent and brilliant cartoon series, possibly ever.
But I do hear Futurama is being made again, which has eased some of my resentment towards Peter and co :)
Ive seen every episode except the new DVD, and I still think it is one of the most overrated shows on TV. But again, when you just want some pretty dumb humour, FG does the job. South Park is probably the best satirical cartoon of the moment though.

So they could sell 2 different packs of dvd's.
The main reason they started making family guy again was for the dvd sales.

The stories are alot less coherent then they used to be, i think they make the jokes first(sometimes funny) then make some crap story to go with them.
"Its like that one time....." references are starting to do my head in, its just lazy.

Haha, saw that South Park, it raised some feckin good points. Season One of Family Guy was genius. The ones after are fairly average.

Funnily enough, NOBODY watched FG in Season One when it first aired apart from me. The commoners only caught up when it turned a bit ****e.

American Dad, now THAT is brilliant.

    Yes, I know.

Listen, I hate the "they were great when they were underground" attitude that prevails on the net more than anyone, but from my experience in 2000 I was pretty much the only person who had even heard of the show, quite simply nobody else bothered watching it. By the time the masses got into it it was series 2 and 3 and it had all went pretty average compared to series one. Dont ask me why, its just what I think.

Mind you, South Park was pretty ****e between season 2 and about 2 years ago. Improved greatly since

Harsh words I know.. but Family Guy is about as funny as The Simpsons these days.

I remember when the first episode of Family Guy screened. They showed it back to back with the first episode of Futurama. I was really, really looking forward to Futurama but was pretty disappointed with the pilot but loved the Family Guy episode as I hadn't heard of it before then and it just came out of nowhere.

Yeah they really do seem to make the episode around certain storylines.

Ah, I still love FG. It's crap compared to what it used to be but I still get a lugh out of it simply because of stupid stuff like in The Fat Guy Strangler:

    "Will someone tie my shoe?"
(one of the fat guys at yer mans funeral)

    and in PTV:

"Don't use the windscreen wipers - it doesn't work. It just makes it worse"
(Stewie traumatised after Peter took a dump off a bridge)

    Stupid stuff like that....

are you suggesting that nobody else watched it's original run, well it might explain why it was cancelled ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

Didnt it get cancelled around 2002?

Anyway, Id just viewed FG with mild disinterest for the past few years, no opinion either way, but that South Park really pointed out the flaws. Flashbacks every 3 minutes starring 80s TV characters may be funny at the time, but on reflection it simply aint genius. And, lets face it, its a blatant Simpsons rip off. Peter is so Homer Simpson its unreal.

American Dad, now that is the dogs ****ing bollix, the character is fairly original, the lines are brilliant. Double bill on BBC 2 last night and they got TWO jokes that were Irish related :D Classic (Gabriel Byrnes accent, rofl :) )
