    Ouch!
200e is very steep, sounds like a ripoff to me. Did you get it done in hospital or your GPs surgery?

I had a similar problem about 4 years ago while backpacking in Australia. It was one of the worst pains I have ever felt, before was bad but it was actually worse after I had it done for a couple of days. As far as I remember over there I only paid for the painkillers which I took for a few days after so the whole thing only came to about a tenner or so. Ireland is ridiculous for medical expenses. I'm in the UK now and I would get that done for free and have to pay about 6 quid for drugs.

I actually had a splinter of nail grow out through the pad of my big toe!

Do you need it off? I went to a Chiropodist a couple of years ago for €120, she cut down the side of the toenail to remove the ingrowing part. It grew back properly, no problems since. (she did say, that if it grew in again, it would have to come off. Ow!)

Fcuk that 6th, the lad has every right to complain.

What if Pighead got his left testicle ripped off and shredded to pieces by a barbed wire fence. Would it be wrong for me to weep my fcuking eyes out just because Johnny No Balls down the road got both his ripped off in a freak accident with a food blender back in 96? Would it fcuk.

Don't mind him legs, cry all day buddy. Pighead won't judge you.

Hey Pighead, 6th just knows that he would gladly have paid €200 to get it removed before all the pain and suffering.

How much! :O I get ingrowing toe nails from time to time, all you need do is grit your teeth and dig them out with a pair of tweezers..

I've had an ingrown nail 5 or 6 times. Got the side of it cut out the first few times but it just came back ingrown again. I think its underestimated how painful an ingrown toenail is! Try having one out on a dancefloor or at a music gig. When someone steps on your foot the pain is unbelievable! Anyways, in the end, my GP just cut out a little bit of the side of it where it was ingrowing as usual, but this time put some kind of acid stuff on it so it wouldn't grow back and I haven't got one since! My toenail basically looks the same, theres just a tiny tiny bit that doesn't grow and that stops me from getting them anymore!

Yes and preferably drunk to numb the pain!

I can't recomend it, but it worked for me!

i had 2 a couple of years ago, one on each of my big toes,at different times..
i spent a bit going to the chiropodist,he got rid of one of them, but the other one kept coming back.
the pain was excruciating,i reckon it would be like piece of glass in your foot when you're walking.
so i went to my gp for a referral to a hospital and got the nail taken off under local anaesthetic..
It cost me the standard hospital fee of 55euro..

I've been suffering from these for almost two years now.

I've had one on my right foot for ages, that I managed to remove myself last year, but it grew back. Then I had one on both sides of the big toe on my left foot, but I managed to fix that, and now I have one in both sides of my right big toe. I dig at it occasionally with a nail scissors, the outside-of-toe one isn't too bad, but lately the skin around the inside one has been really sensitive, so I can't pick at that as much.

I simply don't want to go to the doctor about them.

i rung a toe dude in the city as well near stephens green, also 200e to remove a nail. seems like a standard price.
they put acide on the roots to stop that part growing again,
i did a diy job the night before with peroxide and it hurt like byjasus, but i left a small bit down in the bottom, to get that out he had to get me injected, and since i was numb he took the nail off .

i had to get it off, it was constantly bugging me, i dont care what he wanted. i told him take that bastard off......

No one else ever heard of simply cutting a V in the centre of the toe-nail?

The nail grows to fill in the gap, thus pulling itself away out of fleshy part of your toes.

Pighead can verify that chicks definitely do fart.

Whenever I was bold as a kid, me mam used to call me over and order me to lie face up on the floor. She would then proceed to sit on my face and wriggle about a bit before letting out the most tumultuous of farts.

Looking back, Pighead was a pretty good kid for the most part.

When I was younger I had 2, one on each big toe. I was too wimpy to go to the Doctor so just dealt with them. It wasn't until I broke my finger playing rugby and had to get an operation on it that anything happened. While they were doing the surgery on my finger, they also removed the 2 ingrown nails! They removed the whole root, so instead of a nail, I have something else (hard, looks like a nail, but isint a nail) on my toe! I'm so glad I got it done, no more pain!

had one taken off years ago when in Barcelona. Didn't really feel it (until the local wore off) but the only thing I remember was the gross feeling of him doing that scraping thing :o

Didn't pay for it as far as I remember. Just showed the EU health cover form, whatever it was called in those days.

us girls certainly do get them!
got mine years ago after going to chiropodist for treatment for a verruca. she decided to cut my nails aswell and went way too short. as result of her f*** up i spnt next 2years in agony with ingrown toenails. my poor doc, bless him, tried so hard to do what he could to treat them (used to scream clinic down in agony) but in end had to get surgery - local anaesthetic and they cut the nail down the outside side of each of my big toes. wasnt that sore, remember the surgeon was crossed eyed tho n thinkn oh great, ill be lucky to come out with any toes! hehe can only notice it on one toe now tho. spent years paranoid of my feet tho...still am a bit i guess. still see that b**ch of a chiropodist round the town (galway)...some day ill say sumit to her i swear!!

My toenail has only recently grown as normal for the first time in 2 or 3 years. It was read and absolute torcher for all that time and I must have got it removed 3 times only for it to grow back. All I did was go to my GP. He phones up a clinic in Baggot Street and about 2 weeks later they will remove it there free of charge (because you were referred by a GP). If your GP is anyway decent he won't even charge you and you just give him a tip. :)

The first time I got it removed I thought I'd be fine to walk home from Baggot street. When the anaesthetic wore off I'd probably have preferred to have been shot in the foot. I had to sit on a step and wait for my brother to collect me. :)

    €200 is crazy.

I heard about that from me mammy who heard about it from her mammy and so on... It's worked like a charm for me any time I've had an ingrown but might not be suitable for severe cases.

I recommend softening the nail in warm water before cutting the V and cutting it as deep as is comfortably possible.

€200 is spot on. I've had one and they are nasty aul yoks....in fairness if it gets too far then you would be in so much pain you would pay twice that !

Also dont forget if you have spent a few quid more over the year to keep the receipts and claim the tax back in Jan 2007 ;)

I had them before really bad.

Jusr let it grow long and cut a v in the middle of your big toe.

That only works when the ingrowing hasn't gone too far.
If it gets seriously ingrown cutting a V is a waste of time
