Apprentisship as a sparky/plumber at the moment?

Hi, I'm 17, and thinking about a plumber apprentisship for Mercury, or maybe a sparky one for Fas. Has anyone here done an apprentisship before they were 18, and whats the story with it? Is it hard to get into, and what is the pay like etc... Any feedback would be helpful, Cheers Marc
