Yes DAMIEN is through to the grand final. We, his fans in Australia, never doubted he would. I am beside myself with happiness. DAMIEN was never a dark horse but a rising star with all its glorious brilliance, we always knew that now all of Australia knows. WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO Go DAMIEN!

I can't stand the guy. Never seen him, never heard him, but all the gushing in this thread has made me hate him.

Down with this sort of thing.

I was reading this morning that he is favourite to win now.
    Fair play to him.

    Sorry but who?!

Never heard of the guy.. obviously his Irish success washed over me!

    yeah

    who is Shannon Noll?

he had a number 2 hit in Ireland according to http://www.undercover.com.au/news/2004/oct04/20041024_shannonnoll.html

one number 2 'hit' does not mean he had a big success. i never heard of him until this thread

Don't take this the wrong way but are you a kid?

Perhaps the Personal Issues Board might be a more appropriate place to discuss you inadequacies and inferiority complex.

No, not a kid. But the vast majority of this thread comes across as a couple of squeeing 13 year olds.

    31 years old.
I think its fantastic that an Irishman is doing so well in a prolific competition and I am especially proud of the fact he is from Kildare.

Now I for one am a huge rock/metal fan and dont particularly agree with these type of shows or manufactured music but I think the guy has a good voice and has improved tenfold since I heard him singing in pubs years ago.

I wish him all the best anyway.

Ok I semi take it back. I thought I'd better check out some of his mp3s before slagging him off. Most of them probably don't warrant all the hype that i've read but i have to admit that his version of 'Crying' is absolutely lovely.

Never been one for any reality tv shows, but this year’s Australian Idol has really sucked me in, mainly because of DAMIEN LEITH. He is good, he is damn good and he will win.

Meme - you don't need to justify the fact that it IS reality TV. He is a damn good singer nevertheless and I have no qualms about putting him in the same league as Damien Rice or Leonard Cohen. I am so proud of that fact that he IS Irish and has climbed to the top of the ladder in Australia through sheer talent and that played down Irish aplomb.

    Fair go...

Most of the regulars here will have noticed that I have been bangin' on about Australian Idol Damien Leith since August.

I am a big supporter of Irish music (and Damien's brand in particular) and reckon it is important to celebrate the success of Irish people abroad.

Theres only a few hours to go so lets have some positive vibes...

It was 11/10 for Damien but it seems to be split now...

Just saw this... and tbh after laughing off some of the comments I checked him out. AMAZING, and definitely the best I've seen on any of the Idol shows which I usually abhor. This guy is able to go from Unchained Melody to Creep to Nessun Dorma without missing a note. I'll admit, my jaw actually dropped when I was watching Nessun Dorma... WOW.

As the judge says at the end, he was given this a WEEK before the performane and the guy had never studied Italian before in his life. Give this man from Co. Kildare, Ireland the respect he deserves. ;)

I thought he was G4 like not great, although the creep was awful, no force behind his voice in either of them.

im listening to wicked game, its terrible too,

a good choice of songs, no bridge over troubled water tired choices but still not great

The chart success of former Idols has been dubious to say the least. Previous winners (and runners-up) have had a big TV platform to launch their music careers although it appears to be a case of diminishing returns from the franchise overall as record sales are not as high as expected.

Last years Idol winner hasn't even launched an album yet! Her album has been put back until 2007, the first such delay in the shows history.

In past years the Idol winner would be rushed into the studio, recording an album — of questionable quality — in less than a week to meet demand in the hot pre-Christmas CD market.

I am not one usually for pop music but have to admit I was drawn to Damien Leith's acoustic sound straight away. Irregardless of whether you like his style or not I think that his sound has lasting appeal and you will be hearing a lot more from him on Irish radio.

Hang on a sec. What do you mean by "his" sound? He's doing cover versions for Christ's sake!! And doing them on a Australian Reality TV Show. A country that's not exactly reknowned for producing musical artists of any great note (excuse the pun). Time for a little perspective methinks. He might have a decent voice but there's millions out there that do as well.

And as for hearing alot more of him on Irish radio? I wouldn't hold my breath. He's made it to the final and afaik Tony Fenton has mentioned him once in passing on his radio show. Hardly the next Damian Rice.
