Those of you who were running two phones - 1 x pstn and 1 x VOIP might be interested in the Gigaset C450IP which combines a VOIP and PSTN phone in one. I received it yesterday and it's a big impovement on using an ATA. You can set it to default to VOIP for calls but will revert to the PSTN for 112/999 calls...

One thing I notice is that I get a "SIP Registration Failed" message quite regularly - I wonder if its Smart related..

I have also been looking for this phone, it was supposed to be released in Ireland in October but I've yet to find it, did you buy online?

    Hey Parsi,

Did you encounter any issues with compatability with the Siemens C450 and using the phone in Ireland?

    Thanks.

None. The only localisation needed was to change the phone cable to rj11 at both ends and I also added 999 to the list of emergency numbers which would be dialled over the pstn.

Hasn't 999 been changed to 112? Though I think 999 will still work as well, at least for now.

Yes 112 is now available all over the EU but 999 still works and is ingrained in peoples minds. It would be a shame if someone picked up the phone and had issues dialling 999 because it wasn't added to the list.

The c450 ip has now appeared on the blueface website for 149 euro with 50 euro call credit.

    Hmm.
maybe of more use for DSL customers. I'm on Wireless and got rid of land line entirely, managed to get 2nd phone port enabled on my cable modem SIP/ATA today with different number.

    GSM is now the backup.

But isn't a lot more expensive than a Grandstream HT488 + a DECT phone which will do the same thing, and for the same money let you have twin handsets?
