Hopefully they wont get off the planet in this episode i think only 1 or 2 civy ships wil make the jump cause the 4th episode seems a bit quick to wrap up the new caprica storyline.

Also i heard theres a pre-air of 305 out there is it real or fake anyone know?

Awesome episode that will take some topping to beat. Action, action and more action. The scene with Galactia jumping into the planets atmosphere was just badass.

Sucks to see the Pegasus go boom but what a way to go but Ellen Tigh getting her much deserved deserts was just as good :)

Going to be very interesting seeing what happens now in the Cylon camp now they have both Baltar and the Hybrid kid.

    Roll on next week :D

VERY action packed episode. Think Battle of the Resurrection Ship - even more than that.

SPOILERS (for this episode) AHOY - don't act like you weren't warned

Tigh killing Ellen?! Jesus, I never thought they'd go that far.....

Jumping INTO THE ATMOSPHERE to launch Vipers - gutsy as hell. "Well, this oughta be different" is right.

Pegasus - people have been talking about it for a long time now, they finally got their wish. 2 Basestars for 1 Battlestar, too. Lee Adama must be one hell of a snooker player :D Also brings the series back to focus on Galactica, and means that Galactica will be fully manned (with the skeleton crew, plus the skeleton crew from Pegasus, and those rescued from New Caprica). Lee back as CAG in Collaborators, I'd say. Probably demoted to Major.

Also means that Galactica now has all the Vipers and Raptors from both ships. I wonder will the starboard flight pod be made serviceable now?

Starbuck looked more than a bit devestated when she found out that Casey had just been kidnapped, and wasn't hers.

Baltar should enjoy his existance among the Cylon. Not.

    That was fantastic.

amazing action, some real surprises and some real human cost too.

now lee just needs a training montage and we're back in business.

    Jesus, that was pure class.

I'm still hyped up after it.

Anyway, trying to do an objective discussion of the episode is hard for me at the moment, but I loved:

The ending, both with Tigh being completely seperate from the celebrations despite being in the middle of them, and Adama shaving himself.(I could imagine people complaining that they showed him shaving, but not tryol)

Galactica jumping into the atmosphere and "Dropping like a rock"

Galactica jumping out of the atmosphere, and leaving behind a vacuum, which goes to show the attention to detail on the show

Tigh killing Ellen, which I didn't see coming at all, as I thought he'd forgive her after she told him why she did it.

Baltar. Need I say more? He is pure class, and a bag of **** at the same time.

    WOW That realy was amazing.
Defiantly the 2nd best thing I have EVER seen on TV, the best is still
X Files, Seasn 4, Episode 7: Musings Off A Ciggerate Smoking Man (Cancermans life story) But still this epsiode of batlestar was absoutly amazing the best thing i have seen in years.

I thought the 1st half of the episode was slightly better than the 2nd half. more drama and that scene where Tigh killed Ellen was the best scene in batlestar ever.
For a second i actually thought they where going to kill off adama and the galactica because its something that noone would see comming.

So how many cylons made it onto the civy fleet? How many more do we have to find again

12 In Total and we know off

    Six
    Bommer/Sharran (Eight`s i think)
    The black guy
    Xena/ Three (Lucly Lawless)
    Leoben
    Priest (Ziggy) (Deen Stockwell)
Guy in Blue Suit (Reporter Guy in 1st episode) Sry dont know his name (also guy who was holding gun to baltars head in 302)

Thats only 7 I think im missing 1

Any adia who the others are? (dont post if youve read spoilers for future episode only covering up to episode 304)

Im pretty certan that the oricle that Three went to vist who told her that Herra was still allive is a cylon

    Anyone have any other idias

That was awesome. That was a big can of whupass, and loved the auto-firing death dealing pegasus as it rammed first one then a second base ship. Very cool. Best ep yet.

    Amen to that!

C'mon people, own up. We all knew it would happen, but who else punched the air and shouted "YESSS!" when the Pegasus sailed into view :D

The ending with Casey was frakin' ingenious. Totally in keeping with the Cylon Leoben's persona - Lies & Deceit. Us boardsies were so intent on figuring out if Casey was a Cylon or a Human or a Cylon / Human hybrid, we never reckoned (or did someone?) that she was kidnapped from a human mother. Superb stuff from the writers.

And the ending with Adama's joy contrasting with Tigh / Kara's respective losses was heartbreaking. Michael Hogan has been in excellent form this season.

Lots of seeds sown now for future storylines. And now Season 3 truly begins :)

    Pegasus, RIP.

Too many plot holes. "Why did they do this, when that would have made a lot more sense?"

Otherwise, very entertaining. Shame to see Peggy gone.

An exhilirating 40 minutes of tv,probably the best tv episode ever made.
    It had everything.
    Action,suspense,twists,sadness,bitterness,hope,loss,despair,relief,happiness;unbelievable episode.
The bar has been raised .
Obviously there are holes, like why did the Galactica and Pegasus need to even engage the Basestars as most of the civilian fleet on New Caprica seemed to FLT jump from about 100m off the ground ?
The Cylons could have nuked the planet asap if they wished .
Sad to see the Pegasus go,it was after all a far better battlestar.
Roll on next week,I wish I had a time machine.

Just watched it. Possibly one of the best pieces of TV I've seen in years! It had it all - action drama suspense and loads of explosions!!!! The producers joke that sometimes they just love to blow sh*t up they really went to town on this one. I loved the twist with Starbuck and the kid and the Tigh/Ellen scene was amazing. I smell numerous Emmys.....

Amazing Episode! But I would have liked to have seen the last two over the three episodes that were originally planned. There were a few scenes that I would have liked to have seen, mostly Roslyn and Adama's reunion. Their relationship is a huge part of the show and Olmos and McDonnell have such amazing chemistry. I was waiting and waiting for it.

    Loved;

    Tigh killing Ellen.

Galactic releasing it's vipers in the atmosphere, "this should be different" followed by the original series homage as the viper went through the tunnel.

    Galactica jumping in the atmosphere.

    Baltar finding Hera.

    and most of all

Starbuck realising Casey wasn't hers and how much Leoben had ****ed with her. Amazing! I was terrified of what a mommied-up Kara would be like but this twist was fantastic.

The female reporter that did a day in the life of Galactica turned out to be a cylon.

Yeah, thats Number 3, Lucy Lawless.

I hope now Ellen doesn't return as a Cylon in future, as it would lessen the impact of her last scene with Tigh.

Plus, minor quibble, no sign of Cavil in this episode, or did i miss him?

This guy raises some valid points
'So let’s go over the battle point by point.

    1) The Ground Diversion:
Well, this surprise factor was destroyed in episode Exodus Pt I when Sharon managed to be spotted and detected by D’Anna Beirs who is oddly not even in crutches after her knee capping.. Or is it another Number 3? Well, let’s say it is. Then why is she running after the Baby? The only Number 3 looking for a Baby is D’Anna Beirs! So that means for D’Anna Biers to be unwounded by the two bullets placed in her knee caps by Sharon she had to have bleed to death and been reincarnated. This of course means that D’Anna Beirs would most likely logically speaking she would tell her comrades about Sharon on the planet and thus they’d be ready for an attack. If this is not the same D’Anna Beirs the question is why then is she looking for the baby? We know the Baby Dreams weren’t haunting the entire model of 3’s just one specific member of the model. So that means the surprise attacks on New Caprica wouldn’t be such a surprise considering that D’Anna Beirs would have altered the Cylon defenses and a crackdown on the humans would have occurred.

    2) The Space Diversions:
The drones from the Task Force from the BSG-75 were supposed to distract the enemy but the problem is they inside of a nebula with a lot of interference for their sensor systems. So if the same sensor systems are basically used on the Basestar Ships it is doubtful the enemy would be distracted by the drones! The drones wouldn’t be detected and no diversion created until it was too late. That is to say when the Drones and the Galactica are both within weapons range of the enemy fleet and they can determine the targets by other means. This true if the Cylons and the Colonial forces have similar detection capabilities when it comes to their respective Dradis systems.
Now, let us suppose that the Colonials have a substantially inferior system to the Cylons. And let us suppose the Cylons have superior detection capabilities and all of the specifications for Colonial Decoy Drones as well. It would be save to say that Six in her mission would attempt to find all information on Colonial defenses and defensive measures during her search in the military database that way Cylons could do ECCM warfare in the face of enemy ECM Warfare. In short the Cylons could probably see through the decoys and jam their frequencies leaving the BSG-75 wide open for an attack. So again the surprise factor here is also hard to believe given the fact that in the first part of the episode the writers screwed the pooch so badly with Sharon’s covert mission to get the keys for the ship.

    3) The attack by Pegasus and Galactica:

The attack is stupid. First off we’re supposed to believe that the Cylons don’t realize that this is insurrection attack is a diversion? So the “Paper Tiger” fate is secured in the Cylon response to the Pegasus and Galactica attack. Once the attacks of the insurgents occurs the Cylons first target knowing that occupation failed and that the humans are planning a rescue attempt you don’t just fight the lowly ground soldiers you attack the means of their escape ie the ships! The Cylons should have strafed and bombed the crap out the ships left on New Caprica. This would leave the Colonial forces in a dire position considering the space required to house them and their supplies. Thus destroying them would leave the Galatica and Pegasus in a dire problem.

The Galactica falls through the atmosphere to lunch vipers into the atmosphere? Why didn’t the original group of Raptors and Vipers go into the atmosphere and do the close support mission? The Raptors were completely armed? They had ordnance on wings with hard points so these are the ships with the firepower to do trick! But they disappeared in the episode after the pointless ECM mission.

The Galatica’s attack on four ships!
They don’t use any heavy weapons ie. nuclear warheads on the enemy? Why aren’t they attacking the enemy with the big stuff? They should have attacked the enemy first with the biggest weapons they have and destroyed the enemy or at least knocked out a couple long before the battle happened. Not to happen so it basically well hey let’s get shot up.

The Pegasus’ rescue is so cliché… Of course they show up in just the last minutes of the battle the Galatica supposedly already crippled is still able to get away. So some how the Battlestar Pegasus gets destroyed? Why once the Galatica is capable of jumping away there’s no need to maintain the attack on the Basestars? If the Pegasus can get away it must get away! It was just a meaning less act to do a suicide mission to destroy 2 or 4 more Basestars. It means nothing if you reduce the fleet of the ships protecting to the humans to nothing. That is contrived.

    4) The Exodus of the civilian fleet:
First off the civilian ships probably should have been destroyed by the Cylon Raiders! And the other problem is that many of these ships were never seen on the surface before they just appeared out no where to get these people off.

    5) The Baby:

How is it that the only person protected during the mission manages to get killed? Why wasn’t she escorted to the rescue ship prior to the attack? '

A bit too critical I think but some valid points raised I think.

This guy raises some valid points
'So let’s go over the battle point by point.

I dunno. I expect that if the producers were sh*tting Mona Lisas out of their asses on que, there'd some be some moaning git somewhere going "but! but! but! they didn't use paint-brushes" or some equally pedantic rationale.

    There's a reason why peeople like this aren't directors y'know ...

And on that note, I'd like to raise a "valid point". If this guy is so good, then why isnt' he putting his money where his mouth is and directing BSG. After all, I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuuure he could do such a superior job of it

Great episode. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,260 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I think it's easy to criticise an episode if you want to and most of the above points are valid but to me BSG is all about the characters and how as I have watched the show from the beginning I find myself more engaged in their fate than any show on TV I have ever watched.

Exodus part one last week where the crews of both battlestars hugged each other in anticipation of a battle that could end badly was very emotional and very representative of what I like about the show.

This is a show that has suicide bombers and highlights the grey area around the possible justification for it while a war goes on in Iraq in real life, that asks questions and makes brave moves that really deserve an audience far beyond that of a sci-fi show. All it gets unfortunately is your standard sci-fi crowd some of which feel honour bound to analyse it far too deeply than it deserves. Fair enough if thats what you like to do but I prefer to enjoy the drama.

I'm not ,its by far the best show on TV as I've stated here a few times.
I just thought there were a few holes in the plot and I wanted to stimulate discussion.
I've watched this episode a second time and one thing that strikes me is the superb soundtrack accompanying it.
How Bear Mc Creary doesnt win the Emmy for best music in a TV show is crazy.
    The guy is a genius.

Indeed, the music is brilliant, as are the effects and story writing.

I noticed most of the points raised, and discarded them just as quick, mainly because the episode was of such a high standard otherwise. If it was a poor episode then I'd be fairly quick to complain, but seeing as I thought that this was one of the best episodes of any show I've ever seen, I'm able to over look plot holes as minor as the ones that you mentioned.

I believe the technical term is called "Suspencion of belief", in that the episode was so well put together that I believed that there was another reason as to why they didn't use nukes(perhaps they dont like using nukes as it seems cylonish, or after suffering a terrorist nule attack) or why the raptor's weren't used(perhaps they were low on fuel, and I've never seen them fight).

I know that you are just trying to promote discussion, but I doubt that you'll find many people that will complain about this epsiode, seeing as most have already said it was one of the best.

Quite frankly, the forty minutes or so of this episode was far better than most full length movies that I've seen recently, and that quite an accompishment.

    Fair play to everyone involved.

I've already said I thought this was the best ep ever (or at least in the top 2)and I dont want to rain on anyone's parade but as Mister ANarchy points out the show is not above criticism.

I'm gonna put my criticism in spoilers, so dont read it if you dont want to annoy yourself ;)
IMHO the creative forces behind BSG are really writing themselves into a logical corner by making the jumpdrive more and more powerful and less limited. Since they've now established that ships can jump into and out of an atmosphere (BTW that scene with the Galactica made this ep) and that ships and even vipers can jump within seconds of take-off. Then why dont they launch a single viper with several nukes on board, have it jump into the "bridge" of a Cylon baseship, drop off a nuke on a short fuse, jump to the "bridge" of the next baseship, drop off next nuke and do on then jump back to the Galactica and be ejoying a nice cup of coffee while watching your enemy being plasmaified.
In fact in this ep they could have lauched the vipers from a safer location and had them jump into the atmosphere on their own (not half as much fun for the viewer I admit) ;)
