11 days on this core. I've decided that a good test of my CPU would be to fold a few units. Unfortunately i'm dual core, and the client still only runs on one core. You can't even run 2 WU's at the same time :(

    You can actually mate.

Just install one client to one location, and the other to a seperate location, Just set the affinity of one to cpu1 and the affinity of the other to cpu0.

Its on their forums. Thats how i found it

Just a thought -- I wonder how much the scores are gonna shoot up once people start folding on their (ATi X19xx series) GPUs.
It's supposed to be something ridiculous like 30x the speed of a P4 or something...

Bah yeah, I was reading about that yesterday... apparently they've got it benchmarked against how long it'd take their test gpu-folding machine and points are based against that instead of the standard CPU work units.
Actually I think they have had to make custom work units / core for the gpu client anyway, so they wouldn't even be folding ths same ones as the CPU clients.
Still, they said they'd give people a 'bonus' for the extra amount of resources people had to donate while gpu folding.
So as not to píss off the non-GPU folders I assume.
Sadly though, I'm not sure the incentive is there for people to run out and buy a load of 1900XTs for their folding machines... I'm certainly not impressed with the pointage.
But then are we losing sight of why we're folding in the first place, and not just running SETI.

Having your gpu run at close to 100% 24/7 is something i will not do. A cpu can handle that stress, but a gpu ? i dont think thats a good idea.

    yes.
but only for a restricted set of calculations,
so only some parts of some projects would benefit. But yeah there is plenty of work to go around and by matching the units/project to the CPU/GPU/machine specs more gets done.

Ok I guess I should throw in a few CPUs.

I just joined the team... I think... well I put in the team number when I started it anyway. Thought I might as well make my shiny new Core 2 Duo actually do something while I'm just browsing/downloading/whatever.

The time for something as small as a chip to reach thermal equilibrium isn't very long, so if your GPU can handle an hour-long session of Unreal Tournament or Half-Life 2, it can handle 24/7 folding.

I forgot to add, welcome to the new guys! We Irish were slipping down the ranks, we need all the help we can get :)

Anybody else have the problem where Wow wont play when running the client. Keeps minimizing. Also trying to get in on this. No way I'm going to be doing more than 3 or 4 cpus though.

    Oh my god

I had forgotten all about this and i am still 14th

    http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=39432

i looked after the pcs in a factory (about 50 p3 866mhz) and set them all running the client in the background, no one found out about it, sadly the factory closed after i left

gonna have to start pushing out some WUnits again

i only fixing pcs as a nixer now, but (with the owners consent) i am gonna install it on everyone of them (except laptops)

So far no game really maxs the gpu to 100% load. The problem is the x1900xtx will hit 90C under load. This is not healthy at all. I know atm it will only use the 2d speeds. But with ati tool you can set the 2d speeds to the same as the 3d speeds. There have been some discussions about this over on XS and AT. None of the people doing it are willing to push their cards to 100% 24/7

I wouldn't mind, my cards are always water-cooled and never hit above 45 degrees under full load.

The picture seems to be broken on our team page: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=39432

Anyone know how to fix this?

Haven't a bog... I'd assume only the person who setup the team and set the image in the first place would be able to alter it.

Nice to see some interest in Distributed Computing (DC) here. I think boards.ie could do with a DC section. Plenty of guys here with lots of machines and some quite good. I myself am very much involced in DC (see sig:D )
