    Lol, I like it!
I'd give it to the Children's Sunshine Home (http://www.sunshinehome.ie/) to help the extend their Pallative Care facilities for children.

I'd also give part of it to the Educate Together people. (http://www.educatetogether.ie/)
    Spammer.

    I'm undecided what I would do with it but a few things in mind are;
    - Attempt to buy out Cellafield with the intention of shutting it down
    - Buy up loads of land in Africa/elsewhere for use as wildlife reserves/preserves
    - Buy a load of the rainforest to protect it.

Dedicate some to the church and some to missionaries in foreign countries.

And here was me thinking people would use the money for the good of humanity...

    Not much is it ?
You could buy one £30m bridge for it, but that's only after you've already spent £300m on the roads at each end of the bridge.

You could build 3 luas lines, but still way short of the tramways we had in the 40's.

Or using the ESB's infrastructure and either their or the street light, you could roll out a wireless internet network country wide.

But for real fun you could buy a large box of brown envelopes, and bribe elected representiatives to keep their election promises. Watch them squirm as they try to juggle stuff around to provide A&E and pension increases and lower taxes. And if you get caught or they try to rat you out, it'll be very difficult to prosecute you. How can they prove you influenced them when they haven't done anything they'd already promised to do ?

And a couple of years down the road, to save money and have more fun, you can threaten to expose them as bribe takers. Haha, muhahaha blackmailing politicians into keeping their promises :D

Better still, ring them off and make them into safari parks. Of course, regular shooting trips would have to organized to cull the inhabitants.

It's a noble cause, but would the Children's Sunshine Home really need anything close to a billion? I'd have imagined that even 50 million would keep them going for a long time...

[edit: not singling you out, just ignoring some of the stupider suggestions...]
Ah But I was thinking if they had that kind of money they could go on to open centres around the country. At the moment they're only in leopardstown and are building Ireland's first children's hospice.

I think that they could then go on to construct purpose built hopsices across the country.

Haha... I knew my response would generate some sort of reaction! :D

Yes, I think it is for the good of humanity; I know of a lot of people who are totally dedicated to mission service projects and I really admire and respect them.

See my post on the hottest girl ever thread.
Failing that, I'd do one of two things:

    1) Give it to South Africa or some charity, mostly just to sock it to Geldof and that Boner lad.

    2) Use it to buy an island somewhere in the Pacific ocean where the world's scum can be sent. Considering that'd only cost a few million, I'd then spend some more on shipping in plenty of mines and Bull, Tiger and White sharks. Just to make sure the scum doesn't somehow get back to land.

Failing all of those, I'd join in on the buying nukes for Ireland plan.

/edit: No, scratch all of them. I'd buy plenty of mechs for the Irish Army. Then we'd see who's who.

One billion Euro ...a lottolotta money if you could spend it on yourself.
But in the grand scheme of things not really that much.

But it should be enough to finance the election campaign (and buy and rig a few votes) for Michael Moore as the next US president.

That could actually be interesting and a worthwhile investment :D:D:D

Cancer research would be one thing, Beaumont Hospital, Naas Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, Crumlin Childrens Hospital, The Irish Cancer Society. Would get PET machines in more hospitals. Would launch a campaign for better oesophageal cancer awareness. The rest would go to UNICEF.
