An American pal of mine who plays prop is looking into coming to Europe to finish up his degree. Not good enough for provinces but certainly Div 1 material. What are the deadlines for player registration for the coming season? If he is too late for a Div 1 club do the same dates apply to Div 2 clubs? Also anyone know the situation in the UK for club registration deadlines? Any advice much appreciated.

Not sure, but I think you can players throughout the season as long as they haven't played for a different (irish?) team in the same season.

Of course, you could just do a Dolphin and not bother to register him at all!

Any overseas player who does not have an EU passport must be registered by the end of June or start of July AFAIK. There's no way your US friend would be able to play with a club's 1st team now. All he can do is play for the 2nd's and wait for next season, assuming the club want him to be their sole overseas player.

I'm not sure what the situation is re: Irish players who have already played for another club during the particular season, whether they can transfer mid-season or not.
