in addition to Coke a small company checked with advertising standards before they sold tap water, quite legit.

Anyone remember Perrier and the Benzene ?
The health board would only test for 20 or 30 most common contaminants and only in high enough concentrations. Theres millions of chemicals in the world and very expensive to test for everything in a water sample.
Health boards acutally run a greater variety of tests than the companies selling water have to.

Go to any supermarket and compare the price of the cheapest water with the cheapest lemonade. They are putting something of negative value in the lemonade , must be toxic waste or something.

Just be sure to boil the tap water first though

To what end? Boiling sterilises water, thats only neccessary if water borne pathogens are a danger.

Boiling should have no effect on minerals, which are what cause different tastes in water.

according to this it could be acetaldhyde or the antimony. Either way i'd rather bottled water didnt taste of it.

If your tap water doesn't taste appestising, why don't you get one of those water filters that fits onto the pipes under your sink? Instant, filtered cold water!

I would only buy bottles of water if I was out and about, and Evian is about the only one I like. Ballygowan is just not nice. River rock is ok but it doesn't taste like pure spring water..more like regular tap water!

btw never refill a bottle more than about 2 times, very unhygienic to do so.

the reality is nobody should drink out of plastic bottles , water or other wise. only use glass bottles . im off to bed now so i wont elaborate too much but all the info on this is available on the internet somewhere:)

If you are going to reuse them get a proper bottle that is meant for multiple uses, the plastic break downs after a few rinses apparently and you'll end up drinking it.:) More info and other issues here.

Yes, I have noticed this unusual taste from Ballygowan. I bought a bottle on way to Wexford on Saturday. Hungover on Sunday morning, I opened the Ballygowan bottle for the first time and it tasted funny. I thought my taste buds might have been a bit off after some fat frogs the night before, so I tasted it again later on the Sunday, and there is definitely something wrong with it.

I came into work this morning and someone said to me that they had bought a bottle of Ballygowan during the week and that there was something wrong with the taste.

I've been using the same bottle for about 2 months at least. Oops.

I can't stand the taste of bottled water. It's completely bland. I much prefer tap water because the stuff in my area is really nice!

I think the whole bottled water thing is turning into a fashion craze. Our consumption of the stuff had risen ridiculously over the last couple of years and it seems as if it's a fashion item to have walking down the street or in the office.

Be certain to watch your expiration dates on bottled water, as they can grow microscopic critters that can be harmful to your health.

    Isn't riverrock just tap water?
It even says it on the bottle.
i have a few bottles of that and i didnt see any reference to tap water on the labeling.
it says ingrediants: pure still water from deep underground.
when i open it though its like as if it is fizzy but its still, its the big bottles there are loads of bubbles in it for some reason

Yes...I thought I was going mad.

Got a bottle of ballygowan last weeek, definately had a weird taste, I thought vodka too....my friends just thought I was taking the pi.ss

Ohhh don't know about that. The filters on my Brita jug cost €6.50 a pop and they're good for about 10-15 litres.

The next option would be that German bottled water they sell pretty cheaply in Lidl.

But I agree with the posters re Ballygowen. There was definately something up with several bottles I purchased recently.

As for Deep Riverrock, it tastes just like tap water to me. I swear I get a flouride-type after taste from it.
