Why is Iron so common relative to other heavier elements

Because its a group 8 period 4 metal and these are the last elements produced by Stellar nucleosynthesis.

That means they dont need a Nova to form so are the most common metals, Iron is the 10th most common metal I believe .

Captain , Electronic config of atoms is crucial to where in the nucleosysthesis chain they form , and hence the commonality.
( Edit : actually its the stage of the nucleosynthesis that determines electronic config so that should be the other way around )

Jack Lynch came close though. He won All Ireland Medals in 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945 and 1946. 1945 was his Football Medal and the other five were in Hurling.
