Hello all. Looking for a good cheap VOIP cordless phone for standard VOIP or SKYPE. Can I get a phone that plugs directly in to the router (RJ45) or is that a different ballgame?

The cheapest way, if you happen to have a cordless phone available, is to get an ATA and plug the cordless phone base into the ATA, and the ATA into the router.

blueface are doing some greatg bundled deals on ata and subscriptions now.

I think one offer is 169 yoyo for a router/ata combination and 12 months worth of uk/ireland unlimited calls. Thats a router/ata and 180 euros worth of subscription for 170 quid.

    Worth looking at....

    Website is www.blueface.ie

thanks for the reply. I already have a wireless router (ZyXEL P-600) hopefully that will take an ATA?? I'm realy new to the idea of VoIP so any help is appreciated.

If your router has a ethernet port, then your ATA will plug into it, ideally, as well , your router will be able to set priority to traffic on this port also, so that when your bb is busy with other internet traffic, it will ensure your voip gets priority. This is kinda one of the advantages of a combined rourter/ata in one box, as the traffic can be prioritised.
Again, blueface do bundles with just ATA as well, so have a look.
