I'm staying in student accomodation in Cork and they've managed to block filesharing, i mean nothing will work - bearshare, limewire, torrents - i've tried em all! Is this the end of downloading for me, or can anyone suggest anything to help me?

Sounds like who ever owns the broadband connection has blocked ports for using P2P!

That looks to be fair enough.
You will get told by many here of various potential ways to get around it but the bottom line is you could end up in a lot of trouble trying to circumvent the protection in place.

Wow, its really a shocker that a communtity network has blocked bandwidth leeching peer to peer programs.

Want to get around it. Buy a Internet connection or prepare to get very very good at the pure fundimentals of networking.

What campus is this ? You'll find it hard to get around this. My buds ... 3 networking degree students going into their 4th year have yet to find an easy way to get around it :o . They used well known ports but can only squeeze 1 or 2 Kbps out of it?

The easiest way is to just pay for a wireless connection from IBB or whoever.

I would be very interested to hear how krazy_8s suggestion "to get very very good at the pure fundimentals of networking" could help :)
