i'm not into organised religion myself but from what i've read and seen scientology seems to be an absolutly insane criminal mafia type gang.

While there are fanatical religious people of all flavours - Scientology is uniquely popular in charging people huge amounts of money to move up the ranks

    http://www.bible.ca/scientology-price-list.htm

Anyone has the right to believe any book they want, but when a cult starts preying on gullible people, and taking their money with glib psychology tricks, then it's time to make a fuss.

Oh, and the brainwashing, that's bad too. But it's not just the Church of Scientology that does that, google the Moonies if you haven't heard of them.

Yeah. Loopers, the lot of them. At least there's one religion that makes some kind of sense.

Was recently at a scientology wedding in the states. Was fairly cringy with future time tracks and perceived realty of love, becoming a clear, and postulation of one's love.

Having said that, to the unbiased observer, I'm sure eating your lords flesh and drinking his blood would seem fairly crazy. Also, virgin mothers and ascencions into heaven seem equally, if not more mad, than Zenu and his spaceships...

LMAO Oh my God I want to be a Pastafarian!!!! :p

Though it sounds fairly male orientated:

The Pastafarian belief of heaven stresses two points. A) It has beer volcanos as far as the eye can see & B) It has a stripper factory.

Christianity and Islam weren't founded about 50 years ago by a science fiction writer who had previously claimed on the Johnny Carson show that he could start a religion, get millions of followers and make a fortune out of them.

One of the things Scientology offers is a 'cure' for homosexuality. And they also tape record all their sessions. So they potentially have plenty of blackmailing opportunities.
    A cure for homosexuality
Maybe that's why Tom cruise is in this relgion
They are teaching him to supress his inner gayness:rolleyes: in order to make a sucessfull movie career and to portray to the world what a nice straight non weird guy he is and as we ALL percieve him to be isn't that right people:rolleyes: :D

Pretty cool vid, I don't see why the Lisa McPherson Trust doesn't go to Florida's governor, acutally isn't that Jed Bush or some Bush?

Having read their website in details before I have to say that they border being Aryan...not the blue eyes blonde hair ideal but definitely genes matter to them.

Scientology promotes Eugenics will possibly be a future headline...

    That's allegedly why Travolta joined.

To the unenlightened eye, it may seem that way. However, the Beer Volcano is taste sympathetic, so what you ACTUALLY drink is your favourite alcoholic beverage. And the Stripper Factory has a 50/50 gender split, and the saved are welcome to become strippers themselves.

At its most basic, many years ago L. Ron Hubbard, while sharing a house with a few odd types (Alister Crowley being one) stated that in order to make money in ameria you needed to start a religion. at the time he was a mildly successful sci fi author, published in Amazing Stories etc. He was no Heinliine or Asimov but ok. He was also a hypocondriac who was always looking for cure for his "ailments". He took a mishmash of psychobabble and new wave hippie ****e combined them together to get Dianetics (he's also mention By Colin Wilson in Supertnature claiming that his e-meter is so sensitive it can dtect the scream of a tree as it is being cut down....) A few more years and a bit more insanity he took the plot from one of his first Sci Fi novels (name escapes me - and cant put my hand om it still in a box after moveing house!) and convinced himself and others that it was a reveletion! lots more insanity on the run in the states, starting a sailing organisation - off shore only international law, promoted himself to commodore - peaked hat et al, young girls in hot pants uniforms etc. a few more years, a couple of break-ins to cia and fbi offices, lots of law suits, at one point trying to claim rights to children of parents who left! etc etc etc.

All mad, all daft. But as has been stated no more daft that him me I all in one, golden tablets that only one person saw, hoovering in the air etc.

Rock on rationality and a fully secular state!! (and proper critical thinking being taught in all schools!)

    was interesting

Your confusion is contagious. Who said in this thread that loaves and fishes is believable?

It's not like the OP was looking for a believable religion or even commenting on the adsurdity of the Scientology beliefs; more that they are a weird cult with activities (brainwashing, robbery, intimidation) that most other churches don't regularly get accused of.

Forget about the beliefs for a second. The thing I linked to in my earlier post shows the truth about scientology.

    http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/

Their actions are totally unacceptable and are more shocking than believing in Xenu.

Those religions were battered into people for thousands of years. People didn't have much of a choice to believe them. Most people nowadays believe because their family does and it's handed down. Scientology is gibberish with no basis or history. They're both rubbish in the end, but one of them really is just taking the piss.

It's not really to do with the story they believe in. It's more the fact that they are dangerous because of the morality of some of the things they believe in.

Like telling a continent riddled with AIDS not to use condoms, or moving peadophilic priests from parish to parish or just plain old promoting centuries of war and strife?

You're right! Scientology is WAY more evil.

If you bring this up with your local parish, you don't get death threats.

Religions who are opposed to the use of contraception, I'd be pretty sure are also against pre-maratial sex too. Catholicism may be against contraception, how ever they don't enforce it. Not only that, but they have very little influence in Africa. I'd imagine the majority of Africa would be Islamic.

It's not as if the Catholic church supports pedophilia, they just show negligence. I'm sure in the majority of cases where priests abused young children they were ex-communicated.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with any of these religions but they're not dangerous in the same sense Scientology is dangerous.

Maybe you should stop imaging and actual find out the reality. Catholicism is a becoming a huge force in Africa, with numbers increasing in astronomical numbers. The Church actively dissuades the use of contraception in a country with a terrifyingly high number of sufferors. Sure they promote no pre-martial sex, but that has never worked in the history of mankind. The huge rate of Aids isn't because of their Godless promiscuity (same as any developed country) but because of poor education and lack of protection.
It seems the Catholic Church will choose Aids over no pre-marital sex. Pretty wholesome. This is only made worse by the fact that this is a rule of the Church, not the Bible, that can be changed at any time.

You're living in a bit of a fantasy world Binomate, I don't know of one reported case of ex-communication of a priest before the huge scandal was discovered. It was only discovered because PEOPLE CAME FORWARD, not because the Church outed the priests. The Church wasn't negligence, it was actively covering the abuse up. Not by stopping the priest, but by merely moving him onto a different church. Any since ex-communicated priest is a bit of mis-nomer, it had to be done under severe political pressure.

On the grand scale of historical 'danger', Scientology doesn't even come close.

Well since Scientology is relatively new, you can't compare the two historically. The point being made is that the church doesn't tell it's followers to do whatever it takes to get rid of the oppostion.

What's your source for this assertion? Do you have any evidence to back this up? Catholicism isn't the only Christian religion in Africa, there's huge numbers that belong to the various Protestant faiths. There's also millions of Muslims and followers of Indigenous religions.

Also, if the spread of AID's is in-part the Catholic Chuch's fault for not promoting contraception, does that mean that it's only the Catholics of Africa that are contracting the disease?

I agree, but deriding it in these After Hours threads is just too much fun to pass up, isn't it?
Anyway, with regard to AIDS and all that, I was wondering what your opinion on bugchasers is?

Tesco is evil, too. One of their employees raped a girl. Evil, I tell you!

There are a few things you can say to those guys when they approach you on Abbey Street:

"Don't you guys say that Einstein says we only use 10% of our intellectual ability?"

    "Yes."

"Well pal, if I only had 1% of it working, I'd still know not to go near you."

    OR

    "It's already clean."

    "What?"

"My brain, so I don't need it washed."
