I don't know where to put this because it could go in to any number of forums so I'll feck it in here. I came across an interesting video about Clearwater, Spiritual Headquarters of the Church of Scientology in America. It's quite an interesting video and it really makes you wonder how the hell they can get away with such things. I used to think they were some kind of deviant of the mormon religion, but they are actually all fucking nuts! Have a look.

I totally agree, only this "religion" resembles more of a mafia type gang than an organised religion.

I tell ya, you wouldn't catch Catholicism telling people to give money in exchange for salvation.

im not in favour of any organised religions but after looking at that video i can safely say that scientology, in clearwater at least is completly dangerous. i mean harrasment of innocent people, controling the police and blatant assault on people is way too dodgy for an apparently peacefull religion. there scum.

Different strokes for different folks. Everyone has different needs. I guess I like my freedom too much to join something like this. Plus, what's the point? I have my own fictions unique to me. Why accept their's?

Tom Cruise is reported to be a big fan of Scientology. Maybe it helped him rehearse for his role in War of the Worlds?

some other forum i frequent actually hates tom cruise so much that they raised $3000 to rent to planes flying banners behind them for the Mission Impossible premiere in LA. It was big news, made front page on digg etc.

here comes the twist. the planes never flew because of "fog". The planes were coming from an airport 45 minutes away and there was no fog that day verified by weather reports and people that lived in the area. Lord Xenu strikes again

Well I was in Clearwater for two weeks a few years ago, mostly at Clearwater Beach but spent some time in the city and wasn't once accosted by any Scientologists yet when I lived in Dublin I couldn't walk up Abbey Street without that little guy with the smiley face jumping out at me offering me the 'personality' test.

There is a lot of friction between the Scientologists and non-scientologists in Clearwater for sure but then there are other large towns/small cities in the USA where Catholics and Baptists wage a war of words and politics against each other so...each to their own I suppose.

Anyway, who are we to talk, look at the (relatively) recent history of Northern Ireland!

BTW, I do think Scientology is a bit bananas so I'm not defending it in any way :D

One of the things Scientology offers is a 'cure' for homosexuality. And they also tape record all their sessions. So they potentially have plenty of blackmailing opportunities.

    A "cure"! lol
They should just turn around now and say "only joking!!", save themselves any more embarassment.
Scientology is about as convincing as Ant and Dec presenting Nuacth on TG4.

    Beck is a scientologist :(

An old page with some stories about Scientology (what a ridiculous sounding name!)

One of them, by Carter, explains the belief system. It's ironic that psychologists are detested by the church, yet so many of the teachings are basic psych tricks with a liberal sprinkling of nuts. Oh, and they bleed people dry and spit them out.

For anyone who wonders what you meant. Here is South Park explaining it.

Just been on Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park#Scientology This stuff is hilarious!!

After a scheduled repeat of the episode Hobbes linked to was pulled by Comedy Central, the writers issued a statement:

"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"
