ignorance

when I was younger, If I called someone when they are in another room, namely my parents, and I know well the sound would have gone into the room, usually I would get no reply. I would expect them to hear me call, not hear quite what I said and asked 'what' or something similar. It's not like I don't get along with my folks, I do really well infact

I have found this ignorance has rubbed off on me, I only noticed tonight when I was in the jacks and my mom called saying she was going somewhere. If I was younger I would have asked what she had said, but I just said nothing, does anyone else do this?

Nope... I always say "Yeah?" if someone calls me or "See ya" if they're going out.....

    Nope.
I'd always acknowledge someone if I heard them or not.

Some academic egg head called this selective listening. I think another called it filtering. A lot of people do it in varying degrees, depending upon who calls to them.

Depends on the mood I'm in, most of the time I would reply though.

What LadyJ said, some sort of acknowledgement anyway, whether it be made a made up word or not. :)

"I'm off out to the shops"
    meh, bleh, etc.

Maybe your the ignorant one for shouting at smeone in the first place and being to lazy to get off your arse to go talk to them.

Or maybe they are the ignorant ones, who knows. I dont.

I would generaly answer. Sometimes I go into a daze and not even notice people talking to me but I supposedly answer them and then not remember much about it later!

    EDIT: Woohoo!! The big 200
(I know it's a pityful number but I'm proud of it!)

I'll shout back an acknowledgement, but shouting back and forth coversations are a pet peeve of mine.

Im more offended by non Americans who say Mom tbh

Aside from that, i hate the way my mother thinks IM the rude one for asking her what she wants

    example

    Mam "Come here!?"
    Me "Whats up?"
    Her "Just come down here"
    Me "What do you want?"
Her "Come here and Ill show you"

ffs 99% of the time she could give me the jist of it and id decide whether it worth moving, but she refuses.

Drives me insane when people do that. If some crisis is not even worth describing, that is proof enough that it sure isn't worth me getting off my arse to see for myself. So I do not.

    Ya ignorant fecker Marts!! :D
When I was younger I'd always shout back or go to them and see what they wanted. Small house so you could her whoever shouted. These days in a one bedroom apartment, it's not like I can't see or hear my GF if she yells for me!

Try not to ignore this, OP.

The only time I'd do that is when I know they couldn't make out my reply. If you're sitting on the toilet (sorry about this) and you'll be there for some time, and someone calls you from the kitchen, whats the point in engaging in a shouting match, where neither side will learn anything of what the other wants or says. Best leave it and see what they want in a few minutes. Otherwise, you're just an ignorant bastard.:D
