Create a transparent image from a JPEG

Hi all, I was looking to transform/convert a jpg image I have to make it transparent. Does anyone know how, step-by-step I can do this through GIMP or the likes? Thanks in advance. Seany

afaik JPEG images cannot be transparent. GIF can though

GIF and PNG support transparency ... not sure about JPG

It also depends on what program is doing the display.

open an image
F4 to set transparancy level
highlight bits and crtl-x to have holes in the image
and then save as whatever your app displays best
