RIP Steve. Mad as a hatter but had a heart of gold!

When I heard the news I was shocked and very saddened. Steve has shown me and my family a different way of looking at this planets wildlife by breaking a lot myths about the animal kingdom.

The world is a little darker as a powerful light went out
    RIP Steve.

My favourite Steve moment was during a program on rattlesnakes, he was hunkered down holding a snake in front of him and talking into the camera, as he does.

Next thing Steve gets a very strange look on his face and the camera pans out slightly, he looks down and theres another rattler sitting in between his legs looking pissed off.

He just quietly asks the cameraman for a stick (cue cameraman handing him a stick the size of your finger, which made it all the funnier) and Steve just works the stick under the snake and flicks it away, then picks them both up for the camera for a cheesy "crikey". Good old Steve.

Excuse me, to suggest that link I put up was disrespectful or insulting towards Steve Irwin is completely untrue. Yeah it's lighthearted (like Steve was himself), but if you bother to read what's it's about you'll realise that it's about how much people appreciated Steve and miss him already instead of you dreaming up that people are happily taking the piss out of him. I'm sure if you and the others bothered to read the entire thread you'll see this post which backs my personal integrity up. You've completely misinterpreted what that was about and immediately came to the conlusion that it was someway taking the piss out of Steve, I can understand that people will react differently to certain things and may be too PC within themselves but I know that I was in no way being disrespectful.

Your link was removed, so all people saw (including me) was a line saying "petition to bring Steve back to life" or something equally ludicrous and yes it seemed very disrespectful even if that was not how it was intended.

Dont take this thread away from people taking about Steve, let it go.

a petition to bring him back to life?
is that the type of thing you think his children will want to see when they are old enough to use the internet?
where it's within my power, i will remove anything undesirable about any deceased person.

fighting Irish, this is board.ie and there is no free speech. don't like it? you know what to do.

I was genuinely very shocked to hear this news yesterday. He was definately an amazing personality and really brilliant at what he was doing.. His love of animals and his ability to make each one he focused on seem like the most amazing creature on earth! He got some hassle here and there for different things he done, but i really think the reason he got so close and personal to these animals was to really try and show the viewer the animals real personality..... no matter how viscous a personality it might be! I heard a clip on 2FM last night of him with a cobra of some sorts, the cobra hissed at him and some venom went straight to his eye "good job I had me sunnies on" he says :) but even on radio, his description of what was going on was so excellent you could imagine it perfectly without even seeing any pictures. RIP Steve Irwin.

Wasn't too impressed when Rick O'Shea was after saying a few words about Steve last night, and in a rather serious tone for him.. he went on to say something like "we really had to think about who we would bring in for this, so we decided to get the only person really who knows quite a lot about wildlife and would appreciate the loss" etc etc "so on the phone now we have .................................. Derek Mooney" Jaysus. To make matters worse, one of Mooney's first lines were "I didn't really like his TV show".

I just heard on the radio that he may get a state funeral if his family agree so. Also, apprently there is footage of him getting the barb through his chest. Crickey.

He was filming a documentary. So naturally enough there is footage of it. The police have taken the only copy of it, so hopefully it never gets out. Please give the 'Crikey' thing a rest. Thanks...

Both mercshire and crashshire sound like valid english counties and would have served just as well as a tribute..or how about cokeshire?

A genuinely nice guy, bursting with enthusiasm for what he did.

I was watching a program about him and his family last night, where he learned all his stuff from. It is sad that he didn't get to teach his kids (which was his goal), the things that were passed onto him.

When I first heard the news I could not believe it, I checked several web sites to confirm that it was true. I am glad that he passed away doing what he loved but the world will be a darker place without him. He was a wonderful educator and seemed to be a wonderful husband and father. I was on to my dad the morning that he died and we both talked about how we were deeply upset at his loss.

Sad to see him go, the world is short one big personality now that he's gone.

RIP steve, hope that you've gone to a better place.

This mans rocktastic lust for life deserves heavy metal lyrics to be remembered by :

    When living your life
    Like an arrow in flight
    You must always accept that
    The end is in sight
    Be grateful at least
for the fact that you knew
    you came to death
He did not come for you

That would be the area of low pressure sweeping in from the Atlantic.

Again someone with absolutely no respect for the man his family or what there going through, regardless of your opinion of him you should not come in here and broadcast it , this thread is for condolances only and quite frankly id expect better conduct from a mod then this

Alot of people were deeply affected by steve irwin and his work in conservation and trying to get his message out, and for someone to regardless of who he is to come in here and basically take the P**S out of him just cause he thought he was a nutcase is wrong

If you have nothing to say then dont say it plain and simple, if someone belonged to you died and people started saying he deserved it cause of what he was doing, would you like it no

So id ask at least to remember his children and stop all this other rubbish and stay away if your just gonna take the P**S

    Shin

I wasnt taking the piss, I enjoyed his shows and his Zoo is amazing. If you look at any met eireann map you can see the area of low pressure attributing to the darkening clouds.

    YEEESH!

    calm down.
if you see something you think is wrong, report the post and one of the mods will deal with it.

It's a damn shame, he was a great conservationist and entertainer, never seen the like of a man with the passion for what he loved, it'll be quiet without you Steve, God Bless.;)
