    R.I.P Steve.

I dunno about that. I would have assumed that he probably wouldn't have wanted to go down to a stingray's barb in the ticker.

He knew what he was doing so he knew the animals were unpredictable. Still though he respected the animals.

The episode of south park where they spoofed him still makes me chuckle :)
    Yeah that was good cracks

As others have said at least he died in his element.

Very sad to see that in addition to his grieving wife he leaves behind two very young tykes.

I guess stingray fatalities are rare.

    But Lookie here and here

    Very sad loss.

Legend tbh. Sparked a number of schoolyard catchphrases.

A larger-than-life character, his shows were both hilarious and fascinating.

    RIP.

Most annoying **** on the face of the planet. The fact that he's dead won't stop me from admitting that. Still, RIP.

No way, that's a terrible loss :( Even though he worked with dangerous animals, I could never imagine this happening. He seemed invincible. Sad indeed :(

    RIP Steve

I didnt mean to make out it was just entertanment, he did bring a worthy topic into the general masses but I'm just saying was it worth leaving 2 kids without a father?

If i wasnt a dad i most likely wouldnt be posting like this.
This is not the thread for discussing it. Go start a thread in humanities if you want to express a polemic.

    RIP Steve :(

Exactly, I don't think he ever saw it as work either! I think he just thought he was really lucky to be able to do what he really enjoyed. If I got a fraction of the enjoyment from my work as he did from his, I'd be happy.

It would have been an awful shame if he where hit by a car or crossing the road.FFS all i am saying is that he died at what he loved doing even if it was a stingrays barb or a crocs tooth, christ its a tragedy that he died no matter what.

Relax. It wasn't a personal attack on you.

Very sad for his family, friends and Australia in general. I went to his zoo just outside brissie and it was great to see the impact he had on wildlife and Australia.
    RIP Steve

People, this was not a freak accident! An accident is something you can't avoid. This man played with allegators and other dangerous animals this was inevitable.

Yes, and he was killed by a stingray. Not exactly a highly dangerous creature are they?

I wouldn't say inevitable not totally surprising though and given how most fans of his (including me) viewed him as almost invincible it came as a big shock to me. I'd planned on visiting his zoo at some stage, I still will but it will be a far more somber occasion than I would have liked.

Yeah, he always got a wee bit close to the most dangerous animals but I always thought he´ll manage to survive.

My thoughts are with his wife Terri and his kids. At the end of the day it doesn´t really matter to a widow and her kids if their husband/father died because he put himself too often in harms way or not.

I enjoyed his TV appearances a lot and his passing is really sad.

More people are killed by dogs & horse accidents than stingray tbh.
