how on earth did Boumsong get a move to Juventus??? I wonder if he'll still play for them in serie A.

I think the real question is. How did we get £3.3million for him??

He will mop up in Seris B , just like he did at rangers.

He had a tough time of it at Newcastle, His Wife and Kid were sick for a long time, plus the fans got on his back a good bit too.

Best of luck to him, but glad he is gone, room for another centre-half now.

cant believe we didnt go in for sol, he would of been perfect, steady the ship and bring on the young uns like ramage and taylor and maybe even help bramble into a decent defender.

Would hate to see us losing martins!! We need another striker as well as him, I think a loan deal might be good news as when owen comes back next season that would leave us with too many front men. Defence will be a big problem for us this year though!! It'll be interesting to see how we do against villa!!

Klose, Bridge and Gallas. That's who we need in the team before the window closes.
That would make everything good again.......

Woo hoo! Given a choice between Klose, Berbatov, Kuyt and Martins I think I'd choose the latter so absolutely delighted. Shepherd is conspicuous by his absence in that picture hopefully and with a bit of luck the fat man is out wrapping up the next signing as we speak. Roeder said he was confident on getting three in before Sunday.

    The more the merrier :D

Given the choice Klose would have been a dream signing for Newcastle, but Martins is a proven international stiker so im happy.

His goal record for inter milan isnt too good, tbh i havent seen him play for nigeria at all, so i will take someone elses word for it. I hope we dont put alot of pressure on him like we did with luque.

Speaking of luque. he is starting tonight, and i would love to see him get a goal or two, hopefully he will play with an extra umph seeing that we signed martins today.

He's scored 49 goals in all competitions for Inter in 150 ish apps (subs included) so that's pretty good going considering he's only 21. Also, 3 in 2 for Nigeria.

Supposedly, the Cole - Gallas - Chelsea saga is drawing to a close. As soon as they all move, we should hopefully pick up Bridge. Not sure on Huth though. Are they making out that he has some sort of ankle condition ie injury prone defender?
Also, are Newcasle on tv this weekend or is it next weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,312 ✭✭✭Limerick Dude

Well its definetly not this weekend spaco. We have villa on sunday, and im pretty sure its not on tv.

Saw the 2nd half of last nights game and Duff was fantastic (playing on the right). Brilliant to see him being able to play football again. Despite the scoreline he put several chances on a plate for whoever was in the middle - if Martins is halfway decent he should enjoy playing with Duff :)

Reading the match reports today and supposedly the lads missed a good few. was charlie on the left last night and duff on right.
Heard from someone that we're on setanta or rte one of these weeks. Would be nice to see the full new squad playing. Hopefully have another signing before the weekends over too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,312 ✭✭✭Limerick Dude

Bit of a thing for Spurs eh? Could have pointed out that West Ham qualified automiatically but were unseeded...

Yeah, certainly in the second half - can't comment before that. He looked good too but didn't create as much or have as much involvement as Duff who just looked a different class. Seeing him on the right I'm pissed Liverpool didn't get him!

Only cos I consider Spurs to be our main rivals this season, in the league & the Uefa Cup. The two clubs have a lot in common, but we have Duff :p

Martins could turn out to be a good signing. But I can't help but think we could do with another striker too. Ameobi is notoriously prone to injury and thats all we have.

Maybe a loan signing? Hopefully we will get Bridge, Babayaro isn't the greatest in defence.

Really think we could do with another option up front though.

    Interesting develpements...

I've taken this from another forum as I wholeheartedly agree with everything said
    Ohmelads said:
As things stand there are not many options. If it's Huth on loan or Woodgate on loan then I'd take Woody every time. The potential risk is small, worst case scenario is we're paying a small portion of his wages while he gives us a couple of games and breaks down. The potential gains are very big, we know he's a top class defender who wouldn't take any time at all to settle at the club as he's been here before. If he gives us 15 games it could make all the difference to our season, it could be the difference between midtable and UEFA Cup, or between UEFA Cup and Champions League.

Real know that no club will be willing to pay all of his wages so I'm pretty sure Real will pay the majority. With no transfer fee to pay and probably a small portion of his wages, I don't see why this is a big risk.

I'm confident about this one because it smacks of Freddy Shepherd. Freddy has apparently tried to bring Woodgate back before and was definitely a big fan of him when he was here. When he left, Woodgate said Freddy had joked about keeping the number 6 shirt for him, but I think it was half-serious because there was always a chance things wouldn't work out in Spain. Woodgate has confirmed he will be going back to England on loan, which limits him to a few clubs. It's much easier for him to come back to the club he knows, and it's an easy deal for Roeder and Shepherd to sort out.

Those who are dead against this signing, I'm interested what realistic alternatives there are? By realistic I mean defenders who can be signed in the next week, defenders Roeder would consider, defenders we can afford. We've got 6 days and as we pursure Gravesen and Bridge, very little money for a central defender.

According to Guilleme Balague on Radio 5 live, Graveson is expected to join Celtic and not Newcastle very soon. Jesus, the Celtic midfield will be stronger than most premiership teams if this goes through. Graveson, Petrov, Jarosik, Nakamura, Maloney, McGeady, Riordan and then others like Pearson, Lennon, Thompson and Sno. Jesus I'm excited. :)

Bit late to this thread, does anyone reckon the Magpies will be contenders for top 6 this season?.

    Hard to say Mike.

If we get Woodgate, Bridge and another forward, then we should definately finish top 6.

But then again with the same squad we have now we won a bucket of games in the last 3 months of last season.

I wouldn't mind Mido on loan for the season, we really are short up front.

I hope we get woodgate on loan. But i think he is going to boro instead :/

We finished 7th last year and we've improved greatly since Souness was rightly sacked, so I don't see why not. If we can avoid the injury massacre of last season the squad should be good enough, especially if Woodgate, Bridge, Huth or Graveson sign. We usually do well in the Uefa Cup and I think we could finally win it this year.

There was a lot of compassion shown towards Woody from NUFC, when he'd returned to training at Real then was crocked again in training and had to go for the op.

He was also an instant hit with the Toon Army and was cheered whenever he made a crunching tackle or a trademark header.

I'm sure that deep down Woody would prefer to come back to the Toon and if it's his choice between us, boro or Villa, he'll be back next week.

In the 19(I think) games Woodgate played for Newcastle their form was good enough to challenge for the league title , simply because we conceaded much less . He is a world class defender and makes us a world class team(even incompetent defenders like Bramble were make to look solid beside him) .

I would love Woodgate to come back on loan , even if we could only get 10-12 games out of him it would be worth it .
