I have a vaio, model PCG-9S1M, running xp home.

Sometime ago I did a update and the blue Fn keys did not work. for example could no longer use external VDU.

Found a solution on the web which said run hkserv.exe

This worked for about a year and recently it no longer solves the problem.

I tried the vaio website but the model is not listed and my serial number is not readable off the back: is it somewhere else?

    Thanks in advance.

ps I use the auto update feature for all the MS products as well as for my virus software

You can get the serial number from VAIO System Information.

    Re-install the VAIO Util(itie)s Package.

instead of clicking to run hkserv.exe each time windows loads, add the file to your startup by right clicking on it and pasting a shortcut into the startup folder in your start menu.I believe the error of the non functioning FN keys is down to the fact that Sony like Toshiba uses software to control these functions rather than hardware (like dell for example) so give that a go,fixed a customers issues very similar with a toshiba!
