You're going to drop a friend, nay confidant of 8 years over a possible cae of mistaken identity? How do you know he's not telling the truth as far as he is concerned?

    Basically, WTF?

A bit confusing post tbh. You should talk to him rather than ask here, methinks. If you have been friends for 8 years I'm sure it can be worked out.
Remember that what you think he meant by the texts may not be correct at all. Don't throw friends away over misunderstandings.

    ???

Maybe I don't get what you mean.

    My understanding (summary)
    - You have a very good friend who you've known for eight years.
    - You have an ex, that you still like, who is now with someone else, hasn't had sex with her (not that that's any of your business, or even relevant), and you accept that you are not going to get back with him.
    - Your friend texted you and told you he saw them.

    SO WHAT!!!???
You already knew!!! I fail to see what the problem is. Even if he did get it wrong, and the person who told him who the ex was got it wrong.........then so what!? It's not like it's a surprise - you already knew!!! Why are you talking about 'dumping' such a good friend, who you tell everything to, over this? :-S

Maybe I've gotten your story completely wrong - please explain if I have....
but at the moment it seems like you've been taking the crazy pills.

Surely if this friend of eight years is so dear to you, you couldn't possibly think of 'dumping' him over this text message/misunderstanding?
