Wind forward to 0:49 and listen as the guy struggles to come up with a term to describe people from Ireland.

Do they not teach geography in Yankland?

Irelinians! :) Nope all Americans know is about their back yard and thats about it. The blinkers on their little world, simple. :)

Some do, some don't. America isn't noted for it's geographical knowledge, but then they know about other things. Take the internet and a lot of computer technology. A big part of that is down to American knowhow. So we would not be having this debate without it. Geography and other things aren't their strong point, but they have expertise in a lot of areas and none of us are experts in everything.

Seriously reckon if it wasn't for WWII - trocaire funds would be going to underfed orthodontically challenged people - just because they are over-fed shouldn't they be getting trocaire funds? seriously!

America figured out that war was good in WWII. No economist can dispute this. I really don't think GW bush has figured out yet that there are probably 1000 + scientists worldwide - that are not going to flee to america.

Yes, all Americans have the same mentality, the same job, the same hair colour, same type of pet... Geesh! Talk about generalizations!

OMG the two party system is an illusion then!

gauging from that one, sounds like jetlag at work on this guy.

There's no feeling like getting on a plane at 10am EST, and then landing 8 hours later, at 10am UTC, having to face another half day of doing stuff, all jetlagged and tired.

Now now we shouldn't rag on Americans just because it's popular, but it fairness that's kinda hilarious. But kudos to him for actually having a passport and using it.

lollers still, full credit to the guy for being part of that tiny percentage of americans that actually leave the states, let alone their own state. Go Team!

Is it true that something like 10% of American's have passports? I guess they have all they need in their own country?

I was actually on holiday in America earlier this year and some American guys came into the hotel bar and asked the barman; 'Where are those Irish guys that are staying here at?’ The barman pointed to me and my mates sitting in the corner and the American guys came over to use. Suddenly, before anyone had time to say a word, one of them asked us about 'the war' in Ireland and said that we were no better then the Iraqis!!!! WTF! I was speechless! (Plus in fairness this crap didn't deserve a response!) Anyway he continued this rant for 5 minutes, then he offered us a drink, which we obviously declined.

Thank god we aren't harbouring weapons of mass destruction ;)

did you try to explain the situation here?

Well we were all shocked and offended by his drivel and one of my mates even actually tried to explain to him that the IRA had disarmed and decommissioned their weapons etc but it was falling on deaf ears. The guy had his mind made up about us 'Irelinians' so it was like talking to a brick wall.

The only thing that I added to the conversation was; 'So I guess you are a Bush supporter?' to which he relied; 'Hell yeah!'

    I rest my case ;)

Ah don't pick on the poor Americans, imagine if you landed in somewhere like the Ivory Coast...how many people would know what to call the natives? Ivory Coastian, Ivory Coastish, Ivorian Coastonians?

    ahh. one of those.
the thing is, you get them everywhere.
as bad as the Iraqis? i love that. 'yeah, we'll just stand back as you invade our country and blow everything up. sorry about any inconvience you may encounter, Mr. american soldier, sir'.

the guy in the video doesn't seem to be an idiot. just poorly educated in the geography department.

what amazes me though, is with americans you usually get the 'i'm half Irish/ italian/ frence/ german/ insert nationaltiy here. surely he would have met someone who claimed Irish decendency at some stage. WTF did he thing "Irish" meant?

He seems totally bemused at the sight of so many getting sh*t-faced drunk in the middle of the afternoon.

    Welcome to Ireland.

Yeah exactly. The Iraqis did nothing to warrant an invasion from Uncle Sam's mean, lean, killing machine. The whole weapons of mass destruction, (cough) we want your oil (end cough) is well documented but I guess this guy that I encountered had some issues that he need to get off his chest

In fairness, there is still a question mark over the guy in the videos intelligence..........after all he thought that making faces at the end of the video was so cool that he did it twice :p lol

i don't really want to get into a whole debate about the legality (of illegality, in my opinion) of that war, but i'll just say that the initial name of the invasion was Operation Iraqi Liberation. later changed to operation iraqi freedom.

well dressed. enough money to travel.
he obviously has a half decent job to be able to do that and that would indicate some sort of intelligence. he is also fairly well spoken which would indicate at least a half decent education. albeit one that didn't include geography classes.
he was probably excited by his surroundings and that might explain the faces.

then again, he might just have won the lottery.

I don't really want to get into that either, I was just saying that if he wants to compare people in Ireland to people in Iraq then he should atleast get his facts straight because what he said made no sense to me what so ever

Or maybe he won a trip to Paris (via Dublin of course) on JEOPARDY! then bought a fake Lacoste shirt off some skanger in Dublin airport? :p

that wasn't directed at you. i just didn't want people coming in and turning the thread into a debate on the war in iraq.
